We all hear sunflowers are good for bees… but why? 🤔
Sunflowers provide a lot of benefits for bees and pollinators 📣 BUT the top one for me is that they can be an anti-parasitic for Varroa mites and help to reduce them naturally. 🌿
If you don’t know, Varroa mites are so destructive by feeding on bee larvae, killing or deforming them. This is why most beekeepers treat their hives with chemicals to target the parasites. ❌
BUT as an organic beekeeper it is so important to me use only natural methods.
All my hives have a bee gym at their entrance so the bees can groom themselves and get the mites off of them 💁🏼‍♀️ paired with this I plant LOTS of sunflowers to give them the best chances 🌻
I hope this encourages more people to plant sunflowers.
