* Is it right to use British flowers exclusively?

I have definitely had some doubts about my decision to only use British flowers, and a lot of that stems from push back I have received from industry peers.

The answer to this question is: what is important to you?

To me, it's absolutely critical that I work with naturally grown products so I am not exposing myself daily to the harsh chemicals that are used in abundance in the imported flowers market.

It's important that sustainability is at the forefront of my business decisions, making wise choices wherever I can - this means limiting those chemicals, and keeping my carbon footprint as low as possible.

And it's important to me to celebrate everything the natural world has to offer. Growing flowers in ways that are kind to the planet and embracing what's in season.

Ultimately, I truly believe working alongside nature makes me far more creative, and your wedding flowers completely bespoke to you, because I cannot fall back on the same flowers and the same designs again and again.

These are flower-farm to floral-design artworks, made with the finest local ingredients, like a delicious dish you can only savour at that amazing, independent, restaurant you'll never forget.

If you want exceptionally beautiful and truly bespoke flowers, that tick all of your sustainability boxes, pop me a DM.

I'd love to hear more of your ideas and help you plan the most incredible floral display.

* There was once a bride who was torn between the desire for a glamorous wedding, filled with gorgeous blooms, and one that didn't come with a huge carbon footprint.

From the moment she said yes!, Pinterest became her friend, offering visions of dreamy nuptials, that she saved to boards she could share with friends and wedding suppliers.

But the more she searched "British flower weddings" the more her heart sank as it seems it was only possible if she was content with a cottage garden theme...

Until one day when she happened across a florist who thought outside the box and who happily broke the status quo.

You see, it isn't about where the flowers come from that sets the style, it's about the flowers that are used.

And here, at The Honey Seeker Floral Design, our style is somewhere in-between cottage and contemporary. We love the dainty flowers, but aren't big on loads of foliage, opting instead for floral heavy designs.

This means, when you want something that does lean more towards cottage or contemporary, we can either add in a little more foliage and lots of smaller florets in the whole spectrum of colours, or take out the foliage all together and focus more on those bold blousy blooms in just one or two colours.

And so the bride got her wish and married her beloved amongst gorgeous and glamorous floral artistry, her heart full and her mind at ease as she knew she'd been kind to the planet and to her local suppliers.

The end.

If you're a planet conscious couple planning your wedding, looking for sustainable options, then your flowers are a fabulous place to start.

You are in good hands here - from the moment you make contact to the last petal packed away, we are on hand to offer as much advice as you need and love nothing more than craft meaningful designs tailored to you and your stories, with a bold flare and sustainable edge.

* What do you know about imported flowers?

I bet you didn’t know…

Before I get into it, like this post, share it, comment your thoughts, and DM me to have planet friendly flowers at your wedding.

I know you are a sustainably conscious individual who wants to do their best, and know that weddings can come with huge carbon footprints - working with suppliers who source local produce (including flowers) is a great way to be more sustainable.

So...

- 86% of cut flowers used in the UK are imported - they have a rather large carbon footprint.

- And are a huge drain on natural resources.

- But the worst thing for me…

- They are loaded with dangerous levels of toxic chemicals.

- These aren’t only harmful to you and me when we handle these flowers.

- But they are having a long term negative impact on the flower farmers and their families health and development.

- There is the argument that by buying imported flowers we are supporting flower farmers in need of work.

- I agree.. But not at the detriment of their health.

- We need to promote fairtrade and sustainable practices.

- Ask your florist if they buy imported flowers from farms who treat their workers well and farm sustainably.

- These farms DO exist across the world, and we can make the decision to buy directly from them.

- Or, you could supper your local British farmers by having locally grown British flowers at your wedding.

Don't forget to like, share, comment, and DM me - whether for a chat, to find out more, or to start planning your wedding flowers x

About me:

Here we are, a few days after our wedding day.
We got married in 2018 and a few days later had our minimoon in Yorkshire.

I wanted some dramatic images looking out over the moors, so we found a quiet spot, set up our camera and had a quick change into our wedding garb to capture some images.

What you can't see in these pictures are my burning cheeks because, just behind the camera is a group of old ramblers who turned up just as we were ready to take the photos, commenting really loudly to each other about us in our wedding attire.

It was too late though, we decided to just crack on and I'm glad we did.

It was a good idea AND it made a good story.

Anyway, I did not decide to become a florist after my wedding. I got into floristry the year before in 2017 and have just loved it (and did my own wedding flowers).

Initially I thought I wanted to just work with dried flowers/preserving flowers, until 2021 when friends asked me to do their wedding and I absolutely loved the rush, the time constraints, the creativity, and even the exhaustion.

I don't know about you but there's something addictive about working that hard and it feeling so good when you finally get to sit down.

Pre-child, James and I used to go on a lot of hiking holidays and would walk till our feet fell off, and I look forward to getting back to that one day, this feels a bit similar.

Tell me what you love to get up to in the comments below and, if you're getting married, send me a quick "Hello" - if you're not getting married, tag a friend who is!

*Those tangible wedding moments.

Your wedding day is an experience like nothing else and, while your photos and videos will take you back to the moment in your mind, there are a few key elements that can only be enjoyed in the moment.

One of those is your flowers. With such an incredible impact on the overall look and feel of your day, your flowers play an important part in your wedding day and the most treasured ones deserve to be preserved and kept for a lifetime.

The ultimate bespoke work of art, only you will ever own, carrying on those precious memories and taking pride of place in your home.

We collect your flowers the day after your wedding, giving them the same level of care as if they were our own wedding bouquet, and transform them into beautiful works of art, before delivering back to you to enjoy.

DM me "Preservation" to see how we can help you keep your beautiful wedding flowers long after your wedding day.

* Sometimes there are people missing from our wedding day, who we wish were there.

Let's remember those loved ones and honour them.
We'll do this in the way that feels best for you.

We've created posies to take pride of place on the top chairs at wedding ceremonies.
And we've made small dried posies that could be kept forever.
Perhaps a small heirloom piece or photograph that can be tied to the stems of your bouquet.
Or a memory ladder beautifully adorned with flowers.

However you'd love to include your loved ones, we are here to make it happen.

* Fruit for thought.

I love this trend 😍 incorporating fruit into your floral designs at your wedding feels abundant with a touch of the European wedding vibe, as well as adding a very natural and elegantly relaxed tone to the day.

It also allows us broaden your designs, with more scope for uniqueness and deeper levels of texture.

What do you think of this forward thinking trend?

* The biggest congratulations to Emma and James!

Emma and James planned a gorgeous and incredibly thoughtful wedding at The Gathering Barn in Wiltshire.

They considered every tiny detail, each moment of the whole weekend, and the provenance of all the elements. All pulling together to create a wedding with the perfect balance of joy, beauty, and sustainability.

It was an absolute pleasure to work with these two and their creative ideas and colourful flare, knowing that sustainability and locally sourced products where high on their list of priorities.

I encourage you to take inspiration from Emma and James, taking your time to find the suppliers who feel like a great fit and allowing the planning process to unfold at gentle pace, enjoying the process of considering all the aspects of the day. All culminating in a wedding day that runs perfectly, for you to relax and enjoy fully.

* I wish I knew when I got married....

How toxic my flowers were.

And maybe you don't care, it's only one day after all.

But I care - I care about exposing myself to toxins over and over again, and there's some pretty clear evidence regarding the negative side effects of this aspect of floristry.

And I care about exposing my couples, and their guests, to these toxins.

And I also care about the workers on these flowers farms and their families, who are exposed to insane levels of these toxins, and the effects this is having on their health and development.

And, if you are looking at having a wedding full of sustainably grown flowers, I know you care about these issues too. And this makes us a good fit to work together.

* Your Wedding, Your Story

Your wedding day is a canvas to showcase your individuality and love story.
This day is dedicated to celebrating your unique journey as a couple, creating exquisite and unforgettable experiences for your guests.

Your floral arrangements are no exception. They are a key element in crafting an unforgettable moments and leaving a lasting impression.

It all begins with a bespoke design concept, where we delve into your story, transforming your vision into stunning floral artistry.

For the discerning couple with an appreciation for luxurious details and a desire to use their wedding as a gateway to express their sophisticated style, this is your perfect gateway.

This wedding was particularly creative with a bride who had a strong vision. She knew her spring flowers, and boldly incorporated their lovely of all things quirky. And particularly important was involving her teenage daughter in their day - especially for her bouquet we added touches of Spiderman and Harry Potter. Something a little different that made the most important people feel special and included.

DM me the "Flowers" to start our conversation about your wedding flowers.
