We're going zooming into 2021!

The last day of January 2020 sees the return of Trade Winds, but on Zoom, which we're taking a deep breath and diving into... for now. Snowdrops are peeping out and Susan and Simon are excited to welcome poets, Edward and Sheila Aldous, Ian Chamberlain, Jean Grimsey, Sue Proffitt, Deborah Harvey, Gr...

Getting ready for Trade Winds at the Mill tonight. We've installed the Yule bough above our farmhouse hearth... and now I'm considering whether I can polish up my old favourite fariy tale poem, Frog Myth. It has to be done! X

White Hart crest in the roof of the Great Hall entrance way at Dartington. The beautiful medieval Hall was built for John Holand, Earl of Huntingdon and half-brother to Richard II of England. This fair creature with the golden chain is the personal emblem and livery of Richard II, who wore a gold and enamelled white hart jewel. I noticed while sharing this photo of mine, that the White Hart is being plagued by a fly, which adds some perspective to the view!

It's Trade Winds tonight, so do come to share poems, stories and songs up in The Tradesmans Arms in Scoriton, near Buckfastleigh. This is the last one of this season here, and Cafe Culture is taking a break for the summer as well this year.
But, we do have a Trade Winds at Ways With Words on Sunday July 15th, although it was accidentally omitted from the brochure this year. Simon Williams and I are still at Ways With Words in various guises!

Wordstrokes: The Poetry of Art. Edited by Deborah Gaye.

Some good news last night at Trade Winds. The new anthology, 'Wordstrokes: The Poetry of Art' has been released. I heard from Alwyn Marriage that the book contains an avalanche of no less than eight Oversteps Poets, including at least three who were at Trade Winds last night!

I am loving our 2016 Trade Winds season - every seat taken, two months in a row. It's got to be good!

'Tis the sweet spirit of Trade Winds 2016, don't you know!
We blow into The Tradesmans Arms, Scorriton on Sunday evening, January 24th, when there's a big apple-y moon in the sky over our cosy Dartmoor pub-in-a-million!

CHANGE OF VENUE On this Sunday 13th December, the Trade Winds Christmas gathering, which was due to take place in the Scoriton Village Hall, will be in The Tradesmans Arms instead. This is due to the high cost of hiring our village hall now. We will still have the usual Trade Winds jollity... and you won't need to bring entrance money, raffle prize or food to share.

19/11/2015

Trade Winds is this Sunday - new publicans and everything, so do come along and support, so we look ever so impressive for the last Trade Winds in the pub for 2015! Next session will be the big bash of the year - our Yule Party in Scoriton Village Hall on Sunday 13th December.

Trade Winds is this Sunday, instead of last Sunday. It's a bit like the clocks going forward - only by a week instead of 24 hours. Then we revert to the old Trade Winds time next month. OK?

and now for something a bit different, but with the usual Trade Winds warmth and eclectism (good word that), we have a second event in Totnes in Thrive Cafe on Friday 13th March. It's the first of our new Cafe Culture evenings. We are aiming for a fun event, with two super-talented special guests: author and columnist, Tom Cox and songwriter and Trade Winds favourite, Peter Farrie.

10/02/2015

Only one or two slots left for our first venture in Totnes for a while. Get an email (as on poster below!) sailing to me as fast as possible, if you want to do your thing at this event. Do please come as audience otherwise - 'Great poets (singers etc.) need great audiences', as Walt Whitman said. Actually I sneaked in the singers etc.

Next Trade Winds is The Glitzy-Spritzy-Ritzy Yule-Tide Party and it's sooner than you think - SUNDAY DECEMBER 14th in SCORITON VILLAGE HALL. It's a similar format to the normal, from performers point of view. (Just turn up for a spot on the night.) It has added festivities, though, including bring your own nibbles to add to our delicious buffet spread and bring your own festive drinkies. The theory is that what you save on bar prices, you fork out on raffle tickets to fund the hire of the glammed-up hall. Also, of course, any donation of prizes for the raffle table most gratefully received, too!

Trade Winds tonight! Some of our poets, including S & S will be flocking to Torbay Poetry Festival tonight, so there's plenty of space for songs and music and stories and, of course, the odd poem or two. Grahame Blackwell has kindly agreed to MC this one for us, so it promises to be a good one!

Living Tradition CD review of SI BARRON - Sweet Billy Caution

Some good news from Si Barron in Bristol. We do miss you at Trade Winds, Si!

Si Barron was hitherto known to me only as one half of the duo Barron Brady, in which setting his limpid and dextrous fingerstyle guitar and richly phrased vocal work ideally complements the lovely vocals of Ros Brady. Here, however, as befits a deliberately solo album – his first, I believe – we’re…
