MY TOP TIPS FOR A GREAT SPARKLER SHOT! ✨
1. Get LONG sparklers. The ones the burn for a couple of minutes are the best as it’s not a mad rush and you have time to enjoy the moment.
2. Get people to double up!
Buy more than you need so you can have extra bright sparkles in your photos. This means no drinks in peoples hands so they’re fully invested in the moment if they’re holding 2 sparklers each!
3. You don’t need everyone!!
My best tip for sparkler shots is to not include EVERYONE. 20-30 people is more than enough. Organising 60+ that have been usually drinking all day to hold a small firework is not something I recommend 😂. I usually hand select people and grab some evening guests that have just arrived to minimise the chances of that guest that’s been on the fizz since 11am becoming a fire risk 😂
4. September - April is best!
If you’re having a summer wedding, remember that it’s not dark often until gone 9pm! This can make it super difficult to get people outside and if you enjoy a drink and want to truly party, it becomes very difficult and more risky to give people fire as the evening goes on. This is why I limit my part in doing sparkler photos in the summer months. Sorry to be a Buzz Killington! But the safety of my couples always comes first (and my safety of course, please don’t set me on fire 😂)
5. HAVE FUN AND SMILE!
Throw in a dip kiss, a picking up shot like Hayley and James did! But most importantly, smile and enjoy ❤️
6. SAFETY FIRST: Listen to your photographer!
Probably the most important tip…Listen to your photographer! If we feel people are too rowdy or any safety is at risk, we’re not going to be comfortable going ahead with it. Sparklers should be fun and you can get some amazing results. So listen to us as it’s not our first rodeo with sparkler exits ✨❤️
Lastly, 7. Save some for the kids if you have children at your wedding!
Children MUST be supervised by an adult with sparklers, and this is why I personally do not let them hold a sparkler as part of the lineup. They are at a perfect height to catch a very flammable dress on fire as you walk past. So for this reason, save some to do afterwards! ❤️❤️❤️
