On this episode we hear from Zoe. I do not know even where to begin, but probably the best place is enthusiasm, finding the gap in the market and doing something about it. She went into retail initially, but after attending 13 weddings in one year and many more after, including her own, she realised there was a gap in the market for good wedding planners in Wales offering a well-rounded service. She did that for 10 years, before moving onto consulting and training, venues, coordinators, and other wedding planners. She started her own wedding catering business because she wanted to offer good quality, eco-friendly and dietary suitable options for the guests. She pivoted this business to focus on corporates during the pandemic and did not go back. She has also launched a plastic free. sustainable wedding favours and gifts online shop because she wants to do her part to reduce waste at weddings. You can still have a beautiful instagrammable wedding and be sustainable. She is a force to be reckoned with.

This charity is incredible and one that I am so delighted to be able to support as a business….

At six years old, little Vy had never known freedom. Until now.

She doesn’t remember it, but shortly after she was born, she and her mother embarked on what was meant to be a life-changing journey.

Vy’s mother, Huyen, comes from an ethnic community in a mountainous area of northern Vietnam where mesmerising landscapes are as common as grinding poverty. Huyen had known hardship her whole life. After welcoming Vy to the world, she knew straight away she wanted to give her daughter a better future.

A relative took advantage of Huyen’s desire to provide safety and happiness for her child. She approached Huyen with a promising job offer in southern Vietnam. Thinking that was the opportunity she so longed for, the young mother accepted.

But sadly, Huyen’s relative had no opportunity for her. All she had was greed and an obscure plan to sell both mother and daughter for her own personal gain.

Then 25-year-old Huyen and Vy, who was just five months old at the time, were taken to China. By the time Huyen realised they were travelling north and not south, there was nothing she could do to stop it.

In China, Huyen was sold and forced to marry a man she’d never met. Then, it was Vy’s turn. The traffickers planned to sell her daughter to the highest bidder.

But Huyen would not let that happen. She fought with all her strength to keep Vy by her side. She made it very clear to her traffickers that she was willing to accept her daunting fate but would go to any lengths necessary to keep her baby safe.

Huyen’s fierce resistance paid off and mother and daughter were allowed to stay together. For six long years, Huyen and Vy had no freedom, and at times they had no hope, but at least they had each other.

Their ordeal ended this weekend when, in a particularly complex operation, Blue Dragon rescued Vy and Huyen and brought them back home to Vietnam.

During the first six years of Vy’s life, there were no playgrounds, no friends, no playdates, and no school. All she has known is captivity and darkness.

But no more. Now, mother and daughter can heal and finally build the beautiful life they deserve together.

Because of every single one of you who supports Blue Dragon, Vy’s childhood begins today.

Do any of my amazing wedding supplier contacts have any lovely clients who are getting married this summer & have a good story about their wedding plans in the current economic climate?

Maybe they’ve changed their plans from what they’d thought they would go for / are getting married quickly rather than having a long engagement / having a smaller wedding than initially planned... or have any other interesting tales?
