You must be all wondering where i've been. Firstly, I'm so sorry that it's taken so long to reply and say thank you to all you wonderful people who've made me feel so very special. I've been a bit panicky - and that's putting it mildly ! - over a show which I've been preparing for next Halloween Night. Nothing else has been in my mind.
Reading your messages have made me grin ear to ear. Thank you so much - and just to say : it was a great day with a family dinner here ( Italian birthday cake of sponge fruit and cream from the restaurant down the road ), punting on the river, brunch at the café at the end of the garden on Sunday, a baroque music concert the other way down the road, visiting the Archeology Museum, and the company of sons, partners, grandchildren, relatives. Not forgetting Anne, who stunningly organised the whole thing.
Thank you so much and I hope you have a great year ahead, too.
I'm luckier than I deserve.
All my love ######

Maggie Smith, perhaps my all time admired, loved ( I wanted to marry her at one time ! ), funny, skilled and great actresses, has just died. I saw her in Othello at The National, in 1965, and admired and adored her from then on. Rest in peace and thank you for all those years of joyous performances. Our lives will now have a little less sparkle.

A magic show preceded by table walk-around magic for Memory Club and Café, last Wednesday 7th August. A return visit after a long time. It was great to see everyone again. And what a welcome ! And what lovely people ! Tried out some new tricks on them - there were children there as well as older people. We had a good time ! ❤❤️❤

Yesterday, I performed for the Forget-me-Not Dementia Group Peterborough at The Willow Café and Function Rooms Central Park, once again. Lovely to see them all - and Penny Fisher, their organiser, who couldn't be there at my last visit. So I asked her to be a volunteer, this time ! Great place ( of course ! ), great people ( of course ! )

I played a magic show for Larch Grove Grove Community Centre in Peterborough, this afternoon. What a friendly, happy place ! It poured with rain outside, but lots of people came in spite of the weather, and I tried out a new, updated ( better ) version of an old trick on them ( they didn't know that ! ). To my delight and surprise, Carol Hamilton, at the centre, rang me when I got back to book me for their Christmas party. Hurray !

A magic show - on the last afternoon of April - for the warm, generous and enthusiastic people at Kingfisher Court in Stanground, again organised by - and thank you to - Ken Chung.
Kingfisher Court is a modern, bright place with flats which have glass fronted balconies, gardens and restaurant. As you can see in the photo ! 🙂

I returned to Werrington Social Club on Tuesday 23rd April to do a second magic show, after the one last year. Ken Chung, who organised it, has a lovely group of people who come from all over the local area, and it was especially good to meet some friends in the audience from last time. 🙂

Congratulations, Nicole ! Stormed through the London Marathon today in 6 hours 10 minutes ! What a friend to have !
( Don't know who that is that she picked up, but looks suspiciously like her trainer - and ours - Terry )

This is interesting …

Wind is the fog of the blind.

After the chaos of moving from Peterborough to Cambridge, I'm re-organising my magic shows. That's another way of giving me an excuse to post this picture. Because, a dog features in one of them - and here's the dog ! Lovely little fellow isn't he - floppy ears, cute face, little tail ...

The lovely people of North Bretton Friendship Club have asked me to go back and do another magic show for them in March. I'm particularly happy because they are part of Age UK which I admire hugely. Looking forward to seeing them again. Looking at this picture, wouldn't you want to see them again ?

Just reserved a place at the Cambridge Federation of Women's Institutes Speakers Showcase to see if they'd like my magic. Can now also offer them Walk-about Magic and a talk about the Strange Life of an Actor. It's in March, so let's see. But hope they're happy because they're a lovely lot to perform to.

I've been realising how lucky I, and others at the same period in the 1970s, were. My time at Ealing Technical College, studying librarianship, was paid for by Lewisham Borough Council ( full salary ). It was where I fell in love with acting, by being in plays under the guidance of William Askew. Then a full grant was given to me by the Inner London Education Authority to go to Rose Bruford College for three years. While there, A Leverhulme Scholarship supplied more money. On the way, all sorts of people, in amateur and professional theatre, believed in me and cast me in plays or to direct and produce. It could never happen today, so thank you all those people - and those who are still by my side today.
