Listen

Listen Listen! is dedicated to presenting fresh and diverse sounds for curious minds in Cambridge and beyond

is run by Carol Garrison and Graham Lee, enthusiastic gig-goers - and avid listeners - for many years. Our aim is to complement Cambridge's lively music scene by giving musicians who might not be heard elsewhere in the city an opportunity to play for an audience with open ears. Our main focus is on new, original and improvised music, but that's not all!

Our spring concert series reaches its finale on 10th May, and we're thrilled to be presenting the wonderful Héloïse Werner and Colin Alexander in the intimate surroundings of Cambridge Unitarian Church.

Original compositions, improvisations, new music by contemporary composers... and, perhaps, a sublime song written in the 12th-Century!

Saxophonist Iain Ballamy and pianist Huw Warren may have been at the forefront of the UK jazz scene since the late 80s, but they're equally at home when transcending stereotypes of musical genre and style.

Their duo performances are characterised by a near telepathic sense of interaction and a shared love of melodic and harmonic beauty. As well as original compositions by both musicians, their repertoire includes music by Hermeto Pascoal, Frédéric Chopin, JS Bach and John Taylor.

As Quercus, they have recorded two exquisite albums for ECM with celebrated folk singer June Tabor, and have both been awarded the BBC Jazz Award for Innovation.

Come along and hear this wonderful duo performing in the intimate surroundings of Cambridge Unitarian Church on 12th April.

Soundhunt - 30th March - 2pm

Six improvisers hailing from Manchester, London, Cologne and Cambridge come together for musical explorations.
Soundhunt is very happy to welcome the Birchall/Zaldua duo, who create a poetry of sound and noise, drawn from multiple vocabularies of free improvisation that mixes drones with rapid entanglements of plucked and bowed strings, and hybrid sounds built from layers of textures and distortion. These knots of sound constellations explore the multiple ways that strings can work with and against each other. David Birchall is a guitarist, free improviser, composer and organiser living in Manchester, UK. He organises the Curious Ear concert series for improvised music in Manchester which he co-founded with Andrew Cheetham in 2017. Alistair Zaldua is a composer of contemporary, experimental, and improvised music, and is an improviser on the e-violin, and based in Manchester, UK.
We’ll also be welcoming Tansy Spinks, also on electric violin (two electric violins in one gig!), who is a multi-disciplinary artist and performer and one of the organisers of the Sound Bureau concert series in London, as well as Ben Jones on saxophone, the latter visiting from Cologne in Germany, where he is studying with Roger Hanschel.
Plus Soundhunt organisers Dominic Lash and N.O. Moore.
