Just Quincy!
Following in our mother’s footsteps…homemade jams are such an integral part of Persian culture and cuisine. The smell of just these quinces was so strong wafting through the orchard today.
Moraba-ye Beh - Quince jam with cardamom and rosewater, we have been busy making lots of tasty jams, carrot 🥕 fig with cardamom 🫒 sour cherry 🍒 and rose🌹they will be available to purchase winter fair Sunday 15th December, 4 - 8pm 📌

An unusually mild start to November means we still have tomatoes growing and ripening in the Polytunnel. Pruning & trellising tomato plants is crucial for promoting healthy growth, encouraging fruiting & maximising yields. 🤌🏾🍅

Nice to still be getting fresh tomatoes in our polytunnel in November! 😋 What a weird year for growing. Everything came in really late, never grew to full size, and the tomatoes are still ripening despite frost, and we still have green tomatoes on the vine. 🤷‍♂️
Garlic thrives in well-draining soil rich in organic matter. 🌱🧄
Current status of the saffron bed. We’ve got shoots, people. 🍀

It's a Gheymeh night in Cambridge, one of the most delicious & comforting Iranian foods ever. My dear mummy used to make khoresh gheymeh for me, she knew it was my favourite. It came out perfect every time. But now it tastes like hers. 🥰

Handpicked this afternoon, Kohlrabi is one of my favourite crops, it has a unique crisp, fresh taste when raw. Turning kohlrabi into a pickle with a few aromatics (saffron, red chilli flakes) lends it a sharper edge and also extends the shelf life. At its most basic, the pickling liquid can be made with just the water, vinegar, and sea salt - so vary the herbs and spices as you like. 😋

Eating some Gheimeh for dinner with saffron rice and torshi. If there is one thing I like about Iran it's the food. 😋

Kotlet, aka "Persian Meat Patties" are one of a kind and an all-time favourite! Iranians are very fond of their "sandeviche Kolet" crusty bread is stuffed with these patties, pickled gherkins, tomatoes & fresh herbs to make a delicious sandwich, a side dish of Borani Esfenaj, yoghurt with steamed baby spinach & lots of garlic! (Late) lunch. 😍
