We had a great time last night at our annual Parlour competition. 5 magicians performed infont of an audience of fellow magicians and non magician guests. Congratulations to Emlyn who came out on top with a magical performance packed with comedy.

Hi guys. You are all cordially invited to a very special celebration of the life of Phil Brownsword at the Hop Inn, Newcastle-under-Lyme on Tuesday November 26 from 7:30pm.

We're calling it 'The Sponge C ' because despite all the many and varied ways we fondly remember Phil and his magic the 'SC' was the one trick that he made his own. That and his cringe-making - but often hilarious - 'dad' jokes.

So we decided to put these two themes together in an evening of laughter and celebration to help remember all the good times we spent with him.

There'll be a raffle, chip butties and a special 'Sponge C Trophy' awarded to the best dad joke teller of the night - as well as impromptu magic from those of his friends who wish to perform.

The tone of the evening will be relaxed and light-hearted - just as Phil himself would have wanted.

Entry is £5 on the night with proceeds being added to the raffle total and the generous donations made separately to the Phil Brownsword fund-raiser.

We'll be announcing the grand total at the end of the evening and all funds will go to The Douglas Macmillan Hospice, where Phil's mum is currently being treated for cancer.

We'd love to see as many of Phil's magic mates as possible show up for this important evening of celebration, so please make it if you can and share this post with members of other clubs you feel might also wish to attend.

For visitors from outside the area who may consider an overnight stay we can provide details of very reasonably priced overnight accommodation within walking distance of the Hop Inn.

Spooky Magic at 3SM. (Club members only)
October 21st is our Spooky Magic night; bring along a spooky effect to share and let's get ready for Halloween! 🎃

Then afterwards our next meeting is a public event -our Parlour competition on November 4th 🙂 free to come and see our parlour competition, it would be great to see lots of visitors there.

Last night we had the pleasure of hosting Paul Draper as he lectured at 3SM.
Paul humbly asked what we wanted him to talk about, made a list of our questions and created a lecture bespoke to our club.
We learnt about; character; motivation; creating a 10 minute piece; why people book you; how you should act with the special guest; marketing tips to get corporate brand work; magic with stars, circles and bacon; and much, much more, including Paul's real job, which isn't actually performing magic.

What a fantastic night, thank you Paul Draper for an amazing, and completely bespoke lecture. We've never had a lecture quite like it before where we get to choose the narrative and learn exactly what we need. The time flew past and we all had a brilliant time. Thank you again 😃

Monday night was Fool Us where magicians tried to fool our very own Penn and Teller. We had two successful foolers! Well done! 😀 Thank you to Ian and Emlyn for being our judges 😀

Monday night's challenge:
Pairs of magicians working together to perform a routine but they're only allowed one hand each.
The guys did really well and it was a really fun night had by all.
