We continue the countdown to our upcoming bday party with a shout out to our next artist, Bristol-based, DJ Azure!

DJ Azure has been smashing all flavours of new and old skool rave for several years now with his strictly vinyl, high-energy sets. He's been running the epic Dissonance nights in Bristol for the past 4 years alongside ADM and Hugh (Baare), hosting some of the finest parties and line ups (and a huge source of inspiration for us here at Headspace).

His residency at the legendary Distant Planet events, both in Bristol and London are a testament to his quality mixing and selection.

Earlier this year, Azure did an incredible all-1993 mix for us as part of our 1st birthday podcast – link in comments if you missed it!

Next up in the spotlight, we’re incredibly excited to shout about Alchemist / Amy.Kisnorbo.

After listening to several of her mixes, radio shows and seeing her smash her set at Rupture in Bristol, we knew we had to bring Amy to Cardiff!

Producer and vocalist Amy Kisnorbo returned to her UK roots, landing in Bristol in 2020 having spent the previous 5 years honing her DJ skills and playing out under her moniker Alchemist in Australia. Becoming a mainstay of the warehouse and boutique festival scenes supporting a host of local and international talent, including acts such as Amit, Djinn, Fixate, Headland, J:Kenzo, Shades and VIVEK.

Since her return to the UK Amy has had continued success, with releases such as her remix for Sam binga & Addison Groove ‘gal ectro' (PNPL)vocal feature on Oliver Yorke’s 'Touch' (CNVX), guest mixes for Om Unit on SWU fm and J:Kenzo on Rinse fm and, her own SWU FM residency with guests such as The librarian, Niknak, A.Fruit, and sweetpea.

And when it comes to club nights, some highlights have been playing for the Keep Hush turbo tour, Rupture, PNPL and most recently, Hvywght at Brixton Electric.

This only but adds to the last five years of several successes for Amy, her debut 6 track EP ‘volition’ which received vast support (Radio 6, Rinse Fm, Swu Fm), vocal features on Crypticz tracks ‘Ocean Blue’ (Western Lore) + ’Chrysalis’ (Cosmicbridge), and Collaborations with Royalston (Medschool) on his album 'Popular Mechanics'.

2023 has been another strong year for Amy, having dropped her club focused EP 'Verb Works' on Sam Binga’s Pineapple Records label in March, which gained support from the likes of LCY, Stringray, Jossy Mitsu and Borai. And just last month, her remix of Om Unit’s track ‘Strange Brew’ dropped on his Acid Dub Versions 2 album.

Expect to be taken on a unique bassy journey across the 150+ spectrum when Amy joins us on 28 October at The Moon Cardiff 💥

Introducing our headliner for our birthday event on 28 October, it’s the icon that is DJ Nookie, one of the most prolific and versatile producers of the 90s until the modern ages.

Whether it’s as Nookie on Reinforced, Cloud 9 on Moving Shadow, his famous collaborations with Ray Keith, or his years at key record shops like Red Records, Gavin Cheung’s fingerprints are deeply chiselled into the most important blueprints of jungle drum & bass.

From his seminal hardcore/jungle crossover The Sound Of Music in 1992 (a track that continues to regenerate with every generation with recent covers from the likes of Jamie Jones and Dizzee Rascal) right up until he took a break from the genre in the late 2000s to create bespoke racing simulators, Gavin has consistently explored new territories and innovated.

In 1997 he wrote an album with house pioneer Larry Heard. In 2004 he launched one of drum & bass music’s first digital only labels (at a time when the genre was still heavily entrenched in dubplate and vinyl culture) He’s worked with the most influential labels that shaped this music; as well as the aforementioned Reinforced and Moving Shadow, he also worked closely with LTJ Bukem’s Goodlooking Records, Labello Blanco and of course Dread Recordings. Famed for his versatility and ability to hit both hard and musically, Nookie set benchmarks which still exist today.

Headspace invites you to celebrate our (rescheduled) first birthday party, on 28 October at The Moon 🌒

For the last year we’ve been bringing you some of the finest artists in jungle and dnb and celebrating the music we love in our home city.

For our first birthday party, we bring down an iconic DJ and producer, who has been a master of the craft for over 30 years and is a household name when it comes to hardcore, jungle and dnb - it’s none other than the incredible Nookie.

On support we have the innovative DJ, producer and vocalist, Amy Kisnorbo, bringing her distinctive genre-fluid sound to the dance, which is guaranteed to keep you moving!

We’ve also got one-third of Bristol’s Dissonance crew down to educate us with all things hardcore and jungle. Expect high energy and the deepest of 90s cuts, it’s DJ Azure.

We’re also extremely excited to bring Daffty and Jake Fried down, these boys have been smashing up the Cardiff scene with their Breaks & Beyond collective and we know they’re gonna bring that same energy to The Moon on 28 October!

🚨EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT 🚨

With the heaviest of hearts, unfortunately our first birthday event with Nookie, Amy Kisnorbo, DJ Azure, Jake Fried & Daffty will no longer be going ahead as planned on the 26 May.

It’s been such a difficult decision to make, but, sadly, despite our best efforts, ticket sales were way behind where we need to be two weeks out. As you may know, Headspace is an independent brand, a Labour of love for Lou and Tash, but financially, as things stand, we need to postpone it.

We were really excited about bringing you an amazing line up of artists we love and respect, but hosting them all with a low turn out just doesn’t feel right for us.

For those of you who already bought tickets, huge love. Refunds will be issued ASAP.

We know it’s not just us in this position - lots of our friends running events in Cardiff and throughout the UK have also shared similar concerns. The cost of living crisis has had a massive effect on us all and the hospitality industry.

We also know that a lot of people will buy tickets last minute or pay on the door - whilst we completely understand you may not always be able to commit to an event until last minute, this does make forecasting difficult and risky. Where you can buy a cheaper early ticket, please do - it really helps!

Apologies to everyone involved in the event and to those who were looking forward to coming down for a party. We’re super gutted, but we will be back soon with a new party plan, so watch this space for a new date…

We’re officially in countdown mode for this Saturday’s Homegrown event, and with that, we need to tell you all about K-Samrai!

K-Samrai is a dynamic and energetic DJ with a passion for drum and bass and jungle. Born and bred in the heart of Swansea, K-Samrai cut her teeth in the underground scene, working alongside Beatsmith, who was a major mentor and part of the popular night, Junglised.

Her skills on the decks quickly caught the attention of promoters and she soon became a resident DJ at Hug the Sub, playing a diverse range of drum and bass and jungle tracks, always with a nod to the oldskool rave era of the 90s.

K-Samrai's talent took her from the west to the east of Wales, where she played at the legendary Monkey Bar for the Fraktal night. The success of this gig led her to the iconic Aperture, where she supported DJ Storm at their Feline event in Cardiff.

K-Samrai's infectious energy and dedication to her craft have earned her a loyal following of fans who can't resist the call of the dance floor. With her finger on the pulse of the drum and bass scene, K-Samrai is poised to take the world by storm. Get ready to move to the beats of K-Samrai!

Our next Homegrown artist in the spotlight is the mighty TRC2, an incredible breakbeat dnb producer from Usk in Monmouthshire.

TRC2 has carved out his own sound in terms of production with works inspired by legends of the scene such as Krust, Dillinja and Goldie, and current breaklayers such as Quartz, Fanu, and ASC, to name a few.

Having had music released by mentor Fanu / FatGyver on Lightless Recordings, Make or Break and forthcoming on Offish Productions, his debut DJ set will mirror this obsession with breakbeat diversity.

Although nerding out to breaks is characteristic of TRC2’s sets, be assured that he will bring the energy to the dancefloor. Having had experience as a house DJ in the early 2000s, regularly gracing the decks of The Lounge and Moloko’s in Cardiff, Jon is well versed in working a crowd.

With just over two weeks to go until Homegrown 001, we’d like to shine a light on another brilliant DJ who’ll be gracing the decks on 18 March at …introducing .veee!

Newport born but Bristol based, EN.VEE will be showcasing their love of everything jungle, breakbeat hardcore and rave, varying from nostalgic warehouse early 90s vibes straight through to the more modern sounds of the 'jungle revival'. Expect high energy and heavy dancefloor shellers.

She’s also been a recent resident on , hosting an absolutely brilliant show, [Raving] Through The Ages.

Its just under a month to go til our first rave of the year and our very first Homegrown event - celebrating artists based in Wales and of Welsh heritage 🌍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Our first artist in the spotlight is Neath-based, Buzzby!

Buzzby is a passionate advocate for choppage/amen breaks and jungle, with a vibrant, percussive mixing style that keeps the dance floor energized. As a co-runner of 13music, which is affiliated with Vibez Recordings, run by Subject 13, Buzzby has been making a name for himself in the scene.

Having previously run Accousti### in East London at Club 1001 alongside Subject 13, Buzzby has also played at Technicality in its early years, building relationships with artists like Chris Inperspective, Equinox, Threshold, Double 0, Infamy, Shiva, Mr Porter, Killa B and Blackeye

Buzzby is also an integral member of the Optymistic and Friends crew, as well as part of the Dissonance family.

Homegrown fact: Buzzby previously lived in Haverfordwest and was a resident for Soundcheck where he brought Chris Inperspective to Wales for the first time back in 2009.
He also ran events in Milford Haven under the brand Thirteen, for many years.

We cannot wait for Buzzby to bless the speakers with his quick mixing and heavyweight selection next month!

If you’ve tuned into our first podcast, you will have heard a teaser for our next event - we are super proud to announce a brand new concept as part of Headspace; the Homegrown series.

This event series will be celebrating the incredible DJs and producers repping’ the Headspace sound, who are either based in Wales or of Welsh heritage 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

This is something we’re hugely passionate about, and we are mega excited to introduce our line up for Homegrown 001 on 18 March in Buffalo Cardiff.

Buzzby coming straight out of Neath, bringing some proper choppage and tearout jungle business to the dance. A true wizard behind the decks!

Newport-born En.Vee will be showcasing her love of all things rave; expect acid, breakbeat rave and hardcore!

Swansea’s own K-Samrai, will be showcasing her energetic jungle, hardcore and 4x4 selections keeping things rowdy in the dance!

Usk-based DJ and producer TRC2 will also be joining us, bringing his own brand of pure atmospheric and breakbeat jungle!

Joining them will be Headspace residents Lubi J and Electra bringing those sweet jungle and dnb sounds from across the spectrum.
