A little history on these 😊
Origin:
The tradition originated in pre-Christian Germanic cultures, who lit candles during the winter solstice to celebrate the return of light. Christians adopted the practice in the Middle Ages.
Symbolism:
The wreath's circular shape represents eternity, and the greenery symbolizes everlasting life and hope. The candles represent the passage of time and encourage reflection on themes of hope, peace, joy, and love.
Lighting:
The first candle is lit on the first Sunday of Advent, and one additional candle is lit each Sunday until all four candles are lit on the last Sunday of Advent.
