Originally “The Marconi Social Club” was founded in 1910 for the employees of the world famous Marconi Wireless & Telegraph Company who were probably at the time the largest employers in Chelmsford. The club moved to its present site in Beehive Lane in 1964 after out growing its former site in Victoria Road. During 2011/12 our site was redeveloped with the new Marconi Club building opening it’s d

oors on the 5th November 2012 using the same access off Beehive Lane as before with the entrance road named “Tydemans”.

1st February 2017 saw the club move forward under new ownership and given the new name of Hamptons Sports & Leisure. Set within a new development, Hamptons Sports & Leisure is a contemporary club with brand new facilities offering function rooms of various sizes for meetings, conferences, wedding receptions, parties, award presentations, shows, stage shows. We have also hosted BBC Question Time

Hamptons Sports & Leisure, in association with Chelmsford Muslim Society, are planning to hold a Bazaar for a day during each school holiday. The idea is to create a platform for locals from all communities to sell their goods (arts, crafts, cakes, etc) or local businesses to promote their business.

Dear Neighbours,

We hope this message finds you well. We are writing to sincerely apologise for any disturbance caused by an Eid Celebration event held at the centre on Sunday morning.

It has come to our attention that a Tannoy speaker existed in the plant room and was inadvertently broadcasting to the outside neighborhood. We deeply regret any inconvenience or disruption this may have caused. Please rest assured that the speaker has now been disconnected to prevent any future occurrences.

Hamptons 12U team made it through to the National Finals for the second year in row after winning the East region league. After winning our semi final, we narrowly lost in the final to come 2nd in the UK!

Hamptons’ Kamran Arif has had a good month is an understatement! After playing in the National Finals and winning a G1 tournament, he was selected to play for Great Britain and travelled to Czech Republic to play in a Davis Cup style tournament against 4 different countries. He then topped his summer off by winning the 12U Junior National Championships in Nottingham! Kam is currently ranked 3rd in the UK in the 12U age group.

Afghan Children hosed with water and abuses by local resident while they play in a open green area

*Green Space on Tydemans is for Everyone* Afghan War Refugee Children were verbally abused and hosed with water today while playing football on the green. Hamptons is currently supporting an organised Half Term Program for Afghan Refugee Children settle into the UK by having fun, games and various activities at the centre. It was a beautiful sunny day so the children were taken by the supervisors to the green to play. The abuse and hosing with water then started, the children were rushed back in and the man confronted the supervisors. The incident has now been reported to the Police. The children were traumatised by the experience. We ask people to recognise this area is for everyone and Hamptons is also open to everyone. Ayman Syed Hamptons Director
