Both events will now run under a new format, geared more for Adventure Riders with some proper navigational challenges in Adventure Rally Class, and a much more relaxed, intro level class for roadbook beginners and offroad novices with the all new Tour Class.

Well it's not even been three weeks since the Ice Breaker Challenged opened up and already over fifty riders have been out on the trails completing the roadbook routes on offer!

Congratulations to Paul Evans for being the first rider to complete three routes, and therefore completing the challenge! Will he continue on and go for the Ice Man Yeti award? (Complete all six routes).

So far the Peaks and the Cotswolds routes have been the most popular, followed by Thetford and the Chilterns. Not many have attempted Salisbury Plain, but this may be for good reason! The rain on the plain has left it in quite a state!

Thankyou to Fraser Dean for sharing these photos from his day out on Salisbury. Great effort in tough conditions.

Fantastic results so far and it's only early days! Keep it going all!

The Hertford Adventure Rally Raid will be the first ‘In person’ event of 2025 and is open for entries via the website. This event will run on Jan 19th and is a great day out for beginners and old schoolers alike.

The Challenge is On!

It's day three of the Ice Breaker Challenge and already riders have been braving the weather and completing routes!

"IBC Cotswolds done today. Very good and interesting route. The weather at the start was absolutely shocking, so that made the trails on the stone interesting, but then the brightness came and happy days.
Excellent job and next one in 2 weeks" - Jon M

There are around 200 riders signed up to this edition of the Ice Breaker Challenge and with six routes on offer and some challenging navigation, it should make for an interesting league table!

What a brilliant day at today’s Adventure Rally Raid in Hertford.

This event sold out fast and it was great to have a such a big turnout with so many new smiling faces.

This winter's Ice Breaker Challenge is fast approaching, and for this edition expect a whole new level of navigational challenge!

Introducing Precise Navigation Zones, or PNZs.

When in a PNZ as indicated on the roadbook, riders must navigate accurately to avoid accruing penalty points. These are explained in more depth in our latest video which you can find on the website and on our YT channel.

Basically, you're all getting too good at roadbook navigation! So to keep you on your toes we've added this extra feature which will make for a much more intuitive leaderboard for the Ice Breaker Challenge!

With winter drawing in and the days getting shorter, we thought it’s time to explore lighting options for better safety and visibility on and off-road.

We’ve just run the Dark Skies Rally which involves roadbooking in complete darkness in the middle of the forest, and we’ll shortly be opening the Ice Breaker Challenge which involves multiple roadbook routes throughout the UK to ride during the winter.

With big distances to cover and low light conditions to tackle, have you considered whether your bike lights are safe and sufficient?

The results are in! 🏆

After taking the lead at the Kielder Dark Skies, we're pleased to announce that the rider who scored the least points overall in Rally Class at the three UK Adventure Rallies of 2024, is Sam Down!

He was followed ridiculously close by Andy Fairhurst in 2nd place, and Perry Austin taking 3rd place.

Well done to all riders who rode all three events, and as we wrap up the 2024 Adventure Rallies we'd like to say a huge thank you to all who attended these events. They've each been a huge success and great fun to organise and be a part of.

We're not quite done of course, as there are still Adventure Rally Raids and the Ice Breaker Challenge coming up before the year is done.

Here at RallyMoto we have a number of offerings to get you 'up to speed' on roadbook navigation and on your way to rallying like a pro!

➡️ Sign up to an Adventure Rally Raid. These are beginner friendly, one day events where you can use one of our paper roadbook hire units to get started. Riders are tracked for safety using one of our GPS trackers, and a brief training session can be provided at the start of the day for those who would like one. The routes are around 120km - 160km and include byways, minor lanes and scenic back roads.

➡️ Join the upcoming Ice Breaker Challenge! This annual winter roadbook challenge is where many of our members learn to navigate at their own pace. You'll need an android tablet or smartphone to load the roadbook app onto, and then you'll have access to six roadbook routes throughout the UK. There is a three month window to ride as many of the routes as you like, with an online leaderboard and awards for the most routes completed.

Remember back in 2020 when we first launched the Ice Breaker Challenge?

It had been a tough year, and riders were desperate to get out and have an adventure, so we created a number of roadbook routes throughout the UK, printed out the roadbooks and mailed them, along with the tupperware roadbook holders, out to our members so they could spend the winter on the trails enjoying a navigation adventure.

Logistically it was an organisational nightmare, as every roadbook amend meant rewriting, reprinting and reposting the roadbooks out to riders. However, the event was so well received that we are now preparing for our fifth year of the Ice Breaker Challenge!

Thankfully, the development of our very own roadbook app means that route updates and amends are much more straightforward, results are generated quickly, and riders need very little equipment to take part.

The Ice Breaker Challenge 2025 kicks off on December 1st, runs for three months, and includes six routes to ride throughout the UK. There are prizes and an online leaderboard so you can see how you compare to your fellow members!

Entries will open mid November so be sure to sign up to our mailing list to hear about it first!

Open to all abilities and skill level, the Hertford Adventure Rally Raid will take place on the 17th Nov from Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire.

The route will to be roughly 120km of byways and minor lanes, offering a fun and relaxed day on the bike.

This is a great opportunity for newcomers to come and see what it’s all about, to learn how to roadbook, shake down your navigation equipment and to have a great ride out with like minded people.

Digital and paper roadbooks available, and a short training session will be available before you set off for those who are trying it out for the first time.

Dark Skies 2024, Kielder Forest.

Day one included a day stage of 220km, a short break to refuel the bikes and bellies, and then a night stage of 150km. The weather was kind and a big moon provided some extra illumination in the evening, however once riders entered the dense trees in the forest the real darkness set it.

The whole experience changes completely with only the roadbook and the track ahead to focus on.

Day two and the weather has deteriorated, however plenty of riders are gearing up and heading out for another 200kms of riding in remote forestry.

Robbie Wallace first raced abroad at our very own Tour of Portugal event in 2016. Almost 10 years later and he's qualified for Dakar 2025! At 'The Big One' event we hosted last month, Robbie gave a great presentation on his journey to get to this point in his racing career. It was an intriguing and inspiring story of dedication, hard work, lots of fundraising and family support. Now the countdown is on!
