Gavin and Stacey fans will no doubt know that Smithy and Nessa finally tied the knot in the 2024 Christmas Edition of the program. The song that Neil the Baby played at the aborted wedding to Sonia was ‘Blackbird’, written by Paul McCartney. This is a clip from the Bertie and Jonny version, which we have been playing at weddings for many years. The full version can be found on our new YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/)

Blackbird though, was not intended as a wedding song, nor is it a song about a blackbird. It was written about the civil rights troubles in the US in the 1960s. Bird is American slang for girl and ‘blackbird’ should be interpreted as ‘black girl’. In particular, it was in response to the ‘Little Rock Nine’ incident and the civil rights movement in general, with McCartney wanting to write a song dedicated to people who had been affected by discrimination.

It is a song we love playing.

We are absolutely thrilled and humbled to be a Regional Finalist for Wales in The Wedding Industry Awards 2026. Thank you so much to the bride who unexpectedly nominated us(!) and then to all the brides and grooms who have rallied and voted for us to get us this far! We had no plans to enter this competition at the start of the year and getting this far is way beyond than we would have ever expected. Thank you again for your support! We are delighted!

It was a pleasure and honour to play for the Mayor and Mayoress of Chepstow, Jim and Julie MacTaggart and all their distinguished guests at the recent Mayoral Community Celebrations at Bulwark Community Centre. It was a fabulous event organised by the new Mayor which brought many people from different parts of the community together - thank you so much for inviting us to be part of it.
