Kevin Sinfield (current England Rugby Union coach and former Leeds Rhinos and England Rugby League captain) and his team are completing 7 Ultra-marathons in 7 days raising vital funds and awareness for MND and are inspired by Kevin’s former team mate Rob Burrow, who has sadly recently passed after a courageous battle with the cruel disease and their friend Doddie Weir.
This year Kev has identified, Liverpool to Wrexham, Gloucester to Bristol, Belfast, Glasgow, Beverley to Hull, Northampton to Leicester and Manchester as the locations for his challenge, with many special reasons for his choice of locations. Liverpool has been selected, being the home to Stephen Darby (former Liverpool FC footballer) who as you may or may not be aware is battling the horrible disease.
Liverpool to Wrexham will be the first day on 1st December, the twist for this year’s challenge, will see Kev complete the ultra-marathons in 7km sections (a minimum of 7 sections across the route), running between checkpoints, each section will have an hour assigned to it, where Kev and team will run for the time it takes to complete the 7km, he will then rest (if he has time) and recuperate until the hour is up and then go again and repeat until completing the ultra marathon for the day.
UBCGC are offering support so he can utilise a space at Upton Golf Club as a checkpoint - Kevin will be leaving Biro Leisure Ellesmere Port at 13.30 and arrive here approx. 14.05pm and then setoff again at 14.30pm.
I'm sure he would appreciate a welcome/send off!
The Clubhouse will have a hot food menu available.
