What are The Brampton Sessions?

Warm, welcoming and inclusive evenings with foot-tapping tunes, soulful songs and conviviality...

We hold our sessions in St Thomas’ Coffee Bar on Chatsworth Rd S40 3AW on the first Wednesday of the month. Doors open at 7.30pm and there is always someone to give you a warm welcome. The venue is fully accessible. The bar is open until 10.00pm and sells tea and coffee as well as alcohol. Our session takes place in the Coffee Bar, but we do have some seating in the foyer where the music can still be heard but it is a little less jam packed than the bar area.
Our evening starts informally with some traditional folk tunes and songs. Anyone is welcome to join in with these or you can just get yourself settled and have a natter. Members of Jig for a Kiss usually lead the tunes which can be found on our website (bramptonsessions.co.uk). We also often have a song or two.

Next come the floor spots. These are prearranged with the performers who will give us one or two tunes or songs. The variety of the musicians and singers is incredible!

We have a break sometime during the evening so that everyone can get to the bar, stretch their legs and we can find out who has won our ‘amazing’ raffle!

Then the best part of the evening – the main act. These are usually very talented local musicians who give us some fabulous performances and always leave us wanting more.

We ask for a suggested donation of £5.00 which covers the cost of the hire of the venue. In addition, we hold a raffle and pass a hat round – the proceeds of which go to our main act.

If you love live, acoustic music, in relaxed and friendly surroundings, why not come along and give The Brampton Sessions a try?

Three excellent floor spots on Wednesday night - Eric and Hilary, Colbalt Tales and Sticky Bones Jones (aka Callum). All three were quality acts and got the evening off to a cracking start. Thanks all - please do come and play for us again.

We were treated to a high standard of floor spots at the July Brampton Sessions! Thanks to Carl Jessop, Bob Ballard, Paul Chisnell and Richard Freeman and Rob Harley and Rob Meakin. It was great to see some of our old friends from Mansfield Folk Club.
Thanks also to Chris Rust for stepping in and doing the sound.

We have two great acts lined up for our next session - Soft Lad and Some Antics.
Both bands are not to be missed. Come and support these fabulous local musicians who will provide highly entertaining original songs and tunes.

Our floor spots were Ian Stenhouse, Mary Kane, Ivor Bundell, Robin Dawson (with a poem) and Ray Baguley. Thanks all for being willing to step up onto the stage and giving us a very varied set of performances.

The Breaded Churchman gave us two sets of totally original music at June's session. What a wealth of material and an enjoyable evening for all. You even managed to make your mum cry - in a good way!
