🌼 Spring has brought with it a flurry of bookings for Naming Ceremonies, a wonderful way to gather together and celebrate your new family, an addition to the clan, or officially mark the joining of two families.

🌳🌸🌻 They can take place anywhere you choose – from your garden to a café, a park to a village hall.

🎉🍰🥂 We can have music, readings, some lovely symbolic acts (I think wish boxes and memory books are my favourites) and lots of fun. Oh, and of course cake (I think that's the law, right?)

💛🌈 Here's a beautiful reading that's part of a ceremony I am writing at the moment:

🌟 Born on this star-scattered night,
kissed by the cosmos -
A child made of moonbeams.

In your small, starfish hands,
the future nestles.
So dream big, little one.

The wind whispers a welcome,
We’ve been waiting for you
For the joy-making, ground-breaking magic you’ll do.

Namings – bring them on. I am cake ready!

✈️🌏🛳 D had led an extraordinary life which saw her travel all over the globe – she loved to discover new food and new places, making life long friends wherever she went. Her heart though, well that was always in the Chiltern Hills, the place in the end she decided to make home.

🌼 It was long walk from the car park to the crest of the hill, her favourite stopping point on her daily walks, but, on our way to the top, there was much laughter and chatter as family and friends recalled their own memories of D and the things she brought to their lives. Four generations of family had travelled from different continents to be here today, so there was much to talk about.

🌳 After sharing more stories, and reading poems that were dear to her, we committed D’s body to the earth, scattering her ashes beneath the giant oak tree at the peak. Then the family all joined hands around the tree and I took some photos for them, with their arms around D, remembering her with so much love.

🕰 It's time to talk about what we would really like at our own funeral or celebration of life ceremony. Away from the confines of a crematorium, we can build a ceremony that gets to the heart of the person who has died. Humanist ceremonies are all about that person and their stories.

💛 It's time to think differently about funerals.

💛 Wondering if a humanist ceremony is for you? This lovely quote from one of my couples reinforces what I wish people knew – that a humanist ceremony really is for EVERYONE!

📒 As a , and part of the amazing celebrant family at , we make sure our ceremonies are totally inclusive, warm and welcoming. And, of course, they are completely tailored to you.

💛 That's why so many guests say that a humanist ceremony is the best they have ever been to! Whether that's a wonderful wedding, naming a new member of the family or a heartfelt celebration of life ceremony.

🌈🤩 Today's is a corker from a ceremony I conducted last summer. While making his promises to his partner, the groom surprised his bride with this wonderful statement of intent. Powerful stuff.

💛 Personalised wedding vows are an amazing opportunity to make meaningful and personal promises to each other.

🌟 Each Wednesday we'll be taking a look at inspirational that couples have made at their wedding ceremony.

💛 I was blown away to get this wonderful piece of feedback from a couple after writing and delivering their wedding ceremony. 🥲🤩

✏️📒 As a we work super hard to make sure we really deliver – creating memorable, personal ceremonies that will stand the test of time – and Matthew and Marly's was no different.

🦮🌠🌈 For this wonderful festival style wedding in their local village hall, we included dogs, Star Trek, Pokemon and Lord of the Rings, a multi-coloured handfasting (with garland festooned pets included) and even a nose boop! You don't get much more personal than that! 💛✨💛

For weddings, big and small, a brings moments that will last a lifetime.

🎯🏏 B's ceremony was in a place he loved and spent much of his life, surrounded by his local community. His cherished darts were laid out on the side and the room was full of favourite photos that his friends and family had brought in.

🌻🥃 We shared all his best stories during the ceremony – even the unrepeatable ones – and so amongst the tears there was a lot of laughter. We celebrated the man he was and the legacy he left behind, in a room full of love.

🏕 My dad was a Scout leader and I was an honorary Scout on many occasions – smashing it out of the park on knot tying! Who knew that would come in so handy as a celebrant!

🎗FYI … Handfastings are such a lovely symbolic ritual to include in a wedding ceremony.

🌈 A couple's hand are bound together with ribbons to represent their commitment to each other. The coloured cords can symbolise all the things that are important to you both that you bring to your marriage – from family and friends to your gorgeous floofy pets.

🤝 You can use different colours to symbolise things that are important to you both … red for passion, yellow for happiness … green for luck, or you can pick your wedding theme colours.

🎉 When all the bindings are complete, you pull your hands apart and the ribbons magically come together – as you "Tie the Knot!" (cue wild cheering).

🤔 Celebrants spend a lot of time thinking … probably more time than we spend writing or delivering ceremonies!

📒 We think about finding the perfect words to sum up each occasion. From finding words of comfort for a family who are coming together for a celebration of life, to words of hope and excitement to mark a new arrival. And, of course, words of love and celebration as two people make a lasting commitment to each other.

✏️ We think about writing a ceremony that captures the personality of those involved, a ceremony that brings everyone together and makes them feel part of something bigger.

👜 We think about all the details of your ceremony and your day – from what we need to bring in our Mary Poppins style bags full of emergency supplies (tissues, safety pins, pooh bags anyone?) to how we can make sure Great Aunty Pat makes it through her reading.

⏱ We think about the practical side of the day, who needs to be where and at what time, to make a seamless ceremony you don't have to worry about.

🎉 Most of all we think of giving couples, families, friends and loved ones exactly the ceremony they need as they come together for life's biggest moments.

✨ And sometimes, just sometimes … we think of sparkly shoes (full disclosure – that may just be me!)

A gorgeous wedding for this joining of a self-confessed history nerd/hip hop fanboy and 19th century English Lit fan/strident feminist in Oxford this afternoon. As always it’s the little touches that made it special - their amazing and inspiring story of a love spanning three continents, a rousing audience rendition of 500 miles by the Proclaimers (with dancing) and even including their much loved kitties in the ceremony. They also chose to walk in to the venue hand in hand - a brilliant touch that highlighted this special partnership.
