Happy Valentines you beautiful people šŸŒ¹šŸ’ŒāœØ

Roses are red, violets are blue,
Your wedding dayā€™s comingā€”thereā€™s so much to do!
Venues to book and flowers to choose,
A dress that feels perfect, no time to lose.

The cake must be tasty, the music just right,
A dance under twinkles of soft golden light.
Invitations sent with love and great care,
So family and friends can all be there.

But donā€™t let the planning bring you to tears,
This day will be one youā€™ll cherish for years.
With love at the center, youā€™ll find your way,
And have the most magical, joy-filled day!

Wishing you all an evening of romance and togetherness, however you celebrate šŸ’‹

You can always tell when a person has worked in hospitality, but there is something particularly interesting about those who choose a career in live events.

With weddings in particular there is an empathy and emotional kindness cultivated by anyone who has played a part in the union of two people committing a life to each other in love.

Behind the scenes of all the beauty are many hundreds of hours of work, a group of special people who together create an event family. Out kind of work delivering experiences for private clients requires and develops the psychosocial or ā€œsoft skillsā€ employers seek ā€” focus, resilience, collaborative team work, discipline, leadership, strategic thinking, conflict resolution, promptness, the ability to constructively offer and absorb criticism, and perhaps most importantly, the interpersonal skills to ensure guests are cared for.

Less critical but definitely helpful is the ability to bring a sense of humour! Because a lot of our infustry workload is thankless, emotionally and physically demanding. Itā€™s also the most brilliant fun, and addictive in adrenaline and joy.

Sometimes I think the world would be a better place if more people worked in events and hospitality at some point - you learn a lot about yourself and others. I graduated in law, I worked for an international and world leading publishing, knowledge and events business, I went on to become a senior PR manager for UK and overseas industry leaders across multiple sectorsā€¦. however I have gained so much more knowledge in marquees, stately homes, and event venues over the last 15 years than I could possibly have imagined.

I launched a business growth course with to help more people in this glorious sector thrive. Itā€™s not an easy place to have a side hustle, it requires so much skill and expertise, but you can and should be respected in what you do with a plan for long term success.

Donā€™t work in the industry? What are your top tips for starting out?

Are you planning a private party or wedding celebration? Tag your a team! Letā€™s give them some well deserved love. ā¤ļø

A new edition of the Spearā€™s 500 is out now, and Iā€™m delighted to share that I am featured as top recommended advisor in the Lifestyle & Passion Investments Index.

Itā€™s particularly exciting as this is the 10th edition of the Spearā€™s 500, which is an in depth guide of advisors for ultra-high-net-worth individuals and family offices.

What I respect most is that the rankings and selections are based on in depth research, and solely on merit, so you cannot buy a place in the directory. Itā€™s for that reason that so many people recognised it as a trusted and respected publication in the market.

The rankings will also be released online with hard copies of the guide landing early next month for UK and European subscribers - followed by Middle East, US, Asia, and the rest of the world.

A huge congratulations to all those who have been included and thank you again to for making me part of the family. šŸ’«

I had content planned for today but have decided to delay it due to the absolutely devastating scenes we are witnessing in California with the wildfires spreading.

We have family in Altadena who have lost their home, the childrenā€™s school and so much more in memories and deeply sentimental items, alongside the huge logistical challenges they face ahead. Itā€™s truly awful. We are grateful however that they are all safe.

Our hearts and thoughts are with all our friends and colleagues who live or who loved ones based across the region affected.

Thank you to the heroes, the firefighters, and first responders helping and battling the fires across LA.

There is an LAFD Wildfire Emergency Funding Alert you can donate to as well as regional and local organisations in need of donations and volunteers.

Stay safe. ā™„ļø

We have some exciting trips this month so starting the year as we mean to go on! Some gorgeous new enquires from newly engaged babes, and a pick up of pace for those who will be getting hitched this yearā€¦ how exciting is that?

Looking forward to sharing more joy together šŸ’«šŸ’«

As 2024 draws to a close, Iā€™m looking back with fondness as I have had a few major milestones personally.

One year of marriage, two children in double digits, becoming 39+1, travelling to three different countries and seeing some incredible venues on my way, partnering with some incredible brandsā€¦ more to come on so much for 2025 but Iā€™ve ended this year with a gang of mates together in Ireland, great food and drink, and as a WINNER of our Traitors game complete with Winkleman wig and theme music. šŸ’«

Happy new year you gorgeous lot. Thanks for hanging out with me here, your support is so appreciated. šŸ„°

What a difference a week makes. Thank you to everyone who has messaged with kind words and recommendations following my news shared over the weekend on stories. For those that missed it, I went to the ballet and watched the most incredible performance of The Nutcracker only to be brought back down to earth with a bump having discovered my car had been stolen from a private multistorey car park over night.

Absolutely devastated about the loss of items inside it, and actually canā€™t believe Iā€™ve become another owner statistic. The police donā€™t seem to have any hope of finding it, and so Iā€™m simply putting on a brave face and thinking about what to get next!

Itā€™s definitely time for me to switch to EV/PHEV I thinkā€¦ so any recommendations for 4x4 practical countryside models that are both fun and comfortable - please do comment below or DM me! Iā€™ve had lots of suggestions already and itā€™s super useful.

In other news, last week was a glorious one with venue and private home site visits across the Cotswolds. I was very well looked after by the gang at where we have client guests staying next year. Food was amazing, staff delightful and bedroom super cosy with lots of products to relax with. They also have a spa now, but I didnā€™t have time to check it out!

Here is to this week being slightly more calm and festive. Channeling my inner sugar plum fairy! šŸ§š

09/12/2024

Itā€™s no secret, I love to throw a party and am always delighted to host gatherings with my loved ones. This year I thought Iā€™d share a few of my own tips, advice and insights into how to host a festive celebration of your own. āœØ

Perhaps you do things differently? The coming together of families and friends is always an artful balance of catering for all requirements and making allowances, or even blending cultures and traditions. Making sure those in your care are comfortable, relaxed, and having a wonderful time is the most important element of ā€œgetting it rightā€.

Perhaps you serve supper later or you donā€™t bother with lighting the Christmas pudding (what? Are you mad?). It could be that you insist on playing charades or that everyone gathers round for a homemade quiz (yes, games are essential in our house)ā€¦ however you celebrate, or even if you donā€™t, I thought Iā€™d finish on an important note.

Those of us who get to choose, who get to fuss over little details, who get to roll their eyes at bad jokes or simply take time away on a holidayā€¦ remember that there are those that wonā€™t, that canā€™t, that donā€™t.

Iā€™m not going to feel guilty about my cheese board dedication or my current addiction to Boden AW24 festive fashion, but I am giving up some of my time to help others again this year. If you can do something, like giving a monetary donation or a taking up volunteering role, with a cause that is close to your heart - then please do. Magical memories can still be made, with love and gratitude. Pay it forward. ā™„ļø

Just one rule thoughā€¦ no tinsel. šŸ‘€šŸŽ„

And so we have it, colour of the year is ā€œMocha Mousseā€ šŸ¤Ž

Back in Nov 23 I reported here that brown was having a major design moment, and Iā€™m delighted a more earthy, soft and natural colour has been chosen by the design powers that be for 2025.

Natural tones are here to stay, and you can read my article on biophilic event design in our online journal šŸ”— studiosorores.com

Going to see a lot of cream, n**e and whites paired with this soft brown hue for weddings, pulling in dusky pinks and champagne tones.

Though also lots of darker chocolate tones, richer terracotta and fresh green too. Earthy colours that you find outside, paired with patterns and textures to bring visual interest and more subtle details.

I also think mauve will pair with it beautifully. Or even a very soft pale lemon yellow.

Can you tell Iā€™m in into it?!

What do you think?

šŸŒæ New article on the blog today about how to throw a party in The Cotswolds.

You may have read our recent post ā€œIs The Cotswolds the new Hamptons for Weddings?ā€ but here at Studio Sorores HQ we have noticed a huge upwards trend for private party planning and styling enquiries...

I was born in The Cotswolds, my family goes back generations locally, I went to boarding school here, I left to study at University before my first career job in London, and returned in 2010 when I set up my own business planning and designing weddings and events locally. We now operate worldwide at incredible destinations, but our local area still has a very special place in our hearts. We know every hotel, venue, vendor and specialist creative business there is to know - but our speciality is absolutely at private homes in the region.

šŸ”— in stories or visit www.studiosorores.com and check out all of our recent journal entries.

Seems like everyone is on substack these days but Iā€™m holding out on my own platform. Which reminds me! Make sure you sign up to our newsletter this month as we have a special discount and a personal bit of news to announce. šŸ„°

Itā€™s officially evening dinner party season! šŸ’«šŸ¾

Iā€™m currently watching the new Jilly Cooper series ā€œRivalsā€ on and last night was watching the NYE party episode (filmed near our Cotswolds studio at which you can hire for weddings and private parties too by the way!) where guests wore black tie and danced until the sun came up - which is truly impressive in an English Winter!

Other than musing about how Rupert Campbell-Black really *should* have been blonde (Jillyā€™s Rutshire Chronicles were very much my bed time reading at boarding school!) and how much fun party planning in the 80s would have beenā€¦ it has reminded me how fun it is to throw a proper evening dinner party at home. Dress up, styling, full menu and wine pairings. Camel to ride in on optional. šŸ˜‰šŸ«

I have been wondering if I should write a little guide on how to host one successfully on the journal? Or maybe a proper download? What would you like to see in it?

P.s. I also finished latest novel ā€œWives Like Usā€ and am convinced only us local Cotswolds residents will know that so many of the characters are real people (or based on them!). Scarily accurate. Missing a butler called Ian in my life, clearly. ā™„ļø

And just like thatā€¦ I turned 40! šŸ¤©

The last few years have been an absolute rollercoaster, moving to a new home in a different part of the Cotswolds, getting engaged in the skies above Mont Blanc, officially tying the knot at the family home, celebrating with everyone I love (though sadly some who didnā€™t make it) in Marrakech, and continuing to build this business built out of passion I started back in 2010 - when I was just 26 years old, before my first born arrived two years later.

I am fully embracing my 40s with open arms. I am so grateful to my friends and family for all the love, gifts, experiences and celebrations Iā€™ve been treated with over the last week. From a big surprise birthday at home to a week of ocean swimming and dancing on tables in Greece. Iā€™ll share more of that later with a full review of our experience too! A mix of relaxation, reflection, and reminiscing on the good times before I return to every day life.

Today back under the grey skies of the UK I will make tea, put the fire on, and get back to nurturing my business baby with a very full inbox and long to do list! Creating parties for people has been my constant for most of my adult life, and I canā€™t wait to grow what we are doing into something even more exciting!

Cheers everyone. Another year around the sun. šŸ’«

Dreaming of sunshine days, roses and glorious gardensšŸŒ¹

This is my last week of being 39 (!) and itā€™s already been a gorgeous few weeks of seeing friends and family.

My sisters joined me for lunch at in Nailsworth and I was gifted the most beautiful Mme. Alfred Carriere climbing rose from which was perfect planting time!

I then had a surprise party thrown with neighbours, friends and loved ones where I danced around the kitchen in a sparkly dress and laughed so much all night. Slightly sore heads all round the next day!

More to come this week and then off to Greece with the gang, canā€™t wait. ā™„ļø

It may be October but we are busy working on plans for Spring and Summer 2025 weddings and parties now, and taking bookings into 2026 too. Hard to think about garden drinks receptions and al fresco dining and the rain pours and the log fires send cracking scents into our homesā€¦ but thatā€™s exactly what we are doing!

Hope you are all having a lovely start to the week. šŸ„°

A day of dreaming up designs and planning milestone events for 2025/26 šŸ’«

Did you know that .england (near us in The Cotswolds) host some amazing events throughout the year? Next week they have one with who has published a new book on design and architecture called ā€œAn English Visionā€ - one of the best designers of traditional buildings and country houses in the world.

I absolutely adore designing, curating and bringing together creatives to celebrate in spaces that have been so carefully considered - bringing fresh life and the art of togetherness into private homes and hotels, where the interiors provide the canvas on which we paint events.

It truly is a joy and a privilege! šŸ’«

17/10/2024

Letā€™s be serious for a moment, we need to talk about wedding planner commission. šŸ‘€

I donā€™t mean the overall % charged to clients openly as a fee for full service planning and design. I am talking about hidden financial rewards from suppliers or vendors, given in return for referrals to couples planning their big day.

I have decided to lift the veil on this in our industry because I know that far too many planners are doing this completely behind closed doors, without their clients knowing, and holding small businesses to ransom by not putting forward those that wonā€™t agree to it.

Why is it a problem?

It isnā€™t always. If a planner charges a lower set fee and this is how they operate their business with full client disclosure, itā€™s ethical.

The issue is when suppliers are asked to hide referral fees within quotes, or when original quotes are being marked up by planners without consent so that a couple will not only be paying a commission on the overall event spend (typically 15-20%) for their planner fee, but then another similar % on each vendor cost. They are paying twice. Without knowing about it.

It happens ALL THE TIME.

The only option a supplier has is to turn down the job, or to absorb the cost - which will impact their profits, or means they can offer less value in products delivered at higher prices. They can always list a referral fee openly and honestly in their quote so a client will see it - but I have heard plenty tell me this will lose them the job, for obvious reasons.

Itā€™s a shady AF practice and itā€™s something thatā€™s been bothering me for a while now.

Whilst these planners may have a lower retainer/set fee or % charged direct to clients, they are often just as or more expensive than others who are open and transparent with charging their worth. They win and earn dishonestly.

I think we should be recommending suppliers based on merit, talent, suitability, quality and experience. Iā€™d never dream of asking a small independent business to line my pockets at the expense of my clients. Iā€™ve built this business on trust and loyalty for nearly 15 years - itā€™s absolutely at the heart of our company ethos.

What do you think?! šŸ¤”

I know Spring and Summer garden parties feel so far away as we sit here warming our toes by open fires or snuggling up with warm cups of tea but now really is the time to push forward with your plans for milestone celebrations and weddings for 2025.

We often see a rush of new engagements in the 3 month between bonfire night and Valentineā€™s Day, which means new enquiries and clients coming on board with team Studio Sorores. As a boutique event planning and design agency we have limited availability every year and only take on a set number of larger weddings each season - so if you are wondering if you might need some support, procrastinating on getting started with finding a venue or struggling with styling, then I would definitely get ahead of the rush and book in a consultation to get the ball rolling!

šŸ”— www.studiosorores.com/book-a-consultation

We use this session to talk through your current timeline, overall vision, and expectations for the event itself but also what you need from an expert planner. This helps us to tailor a bespoke offering for you that ultimately beings fun and joy back to the planning process!

Weā€™ve noticed a pattern of clients becoming more last minute with their requests and whilst we can always jump in to help at any stage, availability for us and our most trusted suppliers does reduce throughout the year. Give yourself more time and more options, if you can!
