Frozen Phalanges and a Blood Moon. March 2025.

Waking up at 5 a.m. to photograph the lunar eclipse is probably not how most spent their Friday morning, but it is something I do not regret. At minus 2 degrees, my fingerless gloves did little to save my phalanges, but a cup of Lapsang Souchong improved things a bit.

I am incredibly proud to know so many rising stars in various industries and to witness their craft get the recognition it deserves.

BBC Radio Devon - interview on being a basketmaker, on the breakfast show at 6.10am!

This morning I chatted live to presenter John Acres. For 10 minutes I talked about being a basketmaker, what it entails to be doing this full time, to be running a craft business in this day and age. I spoke about commissions, teaching, marching into the future this incredible heritage craft form and what the gift of willow weaving, of basketmaking does for us. At least that’s what through my nerves I remember!

You can catch up with my interview and this episode on BBC Sounds, (will edit in the link when it becomes available later on today). What I do remember is being sandwiched tune wise between Hungry Eyes (made famous by the film Dirty Dancing) and Shalamar’s I Can Make You Feel Good, which frankly is a rather appropriate mantra for what basketmaking does for us!

I’ve accompanied this post with a portrait of myself taken recently by Photographer Caitlin has created a portraiture book project showcasing individuals who work in professions that are often unsung

I am excited to have my work exhibited at Barnstaple Library. 'Hidden Figures Of The South West' is a portrait collection highlighting individuals in underappreciated professions in the South West of England. It is my hope that exhibiting in community venues will ensure that the featured individuals get the promotion they deserve without the general public having to pay to view the photographs.

We are proud to present the next season of events at Barnstaple Library 💃

This comprehensive initiative encompasses over 150 individuals, with a specific focus on showcasing portraits that are highly relevant to the local area.

Confirmed exhibition venues include: Exeter Library, Museum of Dartmoor Life, The Exmoor Pony Centre, and Barnstaple Library in 2025.
