A child came to sit in my chair recently. After they had sat perfectly to be painted, smiled in the mirror and politely said thankyou, their dad shared with me that they have Autism.

Well, you would never have known (and this perspective is coming from someone who worked in education and SEND for many years, working with many children on the spectrum). They sat still in the chair like many other children do, they didn’t squirm or wriggle or react to the brush on their face. They gave me eye contact, smiled and communicated very nicely with a stranger. (Well done little one).

Although I only shared a snippet of time with them, I’m so pleased for them that they seemed to have had a nice experience, and seemed very comfortable in our care. Had they wriggled, or squirmed or decided they did not wanted to be painted - I wouldn’t have minded either.

But… I just wanted to take this moment to highlight invisible disabilities, and how easily they can hide when we are doing ‘all the right things’ and what is expected of us by social norms. Doing all of these things takes extra energy (called masking) and some days there just isn’t enough energy left in the tank to behave ‘properly’, meaning that the carefully built layer of protection we build for ourselves breaks down. Suddenly everyone can see the real us, the messy us, the hidden us. That’s ok though, because projecting a filtered or masked presentation of who we are just isn’t going to cut it all the time. It’s exhausting.

I wonder, can we try to remember to look a little deeper and to share a bit of extra kindness and patience where we can? Because no, we can’t always see what people are going through just by a quick glance.

Kindness really does cost nothing 💜 but it can mean absolutely everything. If you agree, give me a 💙 to share your support.

All of this yarny goodness was out for an adventure today at the CCA Christmas Fair. Thankyou so much to all of my lovely customers 💕.

💜 Many of these earrings are one offs, made with a mixture of beautifully hand dyed and preloved yarns, sustainable wooden rings and beads or planet friendly upcycled inners saved from landfill! Made with crochet or yarn wrapping, no two pairs will ever be completely alike. A truly eco friendly choice.

💙 Not forgetting of course our hugely popular mini eco studs which I make with all of my yarn and glittery thread offcuts!

Summer throwback! I LOVE doing adult painting ❤️ each of these designs were unique and tailored to what the ladies asked for on the spot to match their outfits! I do all of this by hand with brushes - every little dot, swish and tiny petal!

Our chic grown up designs and attention to detail really make us stand out from the crowd 🎨 a perfect addition to a works Christmas party, hen do or wedding reception ❤️. Don’t forget, we also have a full glitter bar for hire, and at these types of events our set up gets all fancy! Don’t worry though, there will always be unicorns and Spidey available for anyone that wants them!

Crochet Croch-yay, who wants to do some crochet?
Our crafty get together this month is on Thursday 31st Oct from 7pm at the CCA in Churchdown. All welcome, bring any craft you like, just turn up and have a chin-wag. You can learn crochet for a fiver per session too, just bring cash along on the day or book via the website (link in bio).

I had a fab busy day today painting in Regents Arcade! Thankyou to everyone that joined me and your lovely lovely feedback on my work. So nice to see so many happy faces & to see so many people enjoying face painting and being curious about being creative!

That’s a wrap from YFest 2024!
Thankyou SO much to everyone that joined in the fun and let me loose with my brushes! 😝🎨 I’ve met some absolutely lovely people this weekend, some of the most fab traders and customers and I’ve really enjoyed spending time with you all! Set up in the lovely cafe today 11-2pm with face paint, glitter and paint tattoos 🙂 inclusive fun for all on this rainy day. Come and enjoy a beautiful coffee and chocolate brownie while you’re waiting and make use of the free kids toys and outdoor playground too! The cafe always welcomes everyone to use at anytime, Such a lovely place to be, and only down the road in Longford for you Gloucester folks! We will be donating a portion of all money raised to the Chamwell centre to support their fundraising efforts ❤️Hope to see you there 🙂 ...
