Calling all Mermaids! The Mermaid Academy

This made my children's day! Thank you to Allsorts Gloucestershire who are a superb charity who help families like ours. They provide football and swimming every week for Henry, they put on FABULOUS days out for us and they've even come to the rescue when our car had a mini accident! Thank you also to Cotswold Farm Park and we can't wait to visit you again soon 😀

Thank you so much Miss Ellie and all the girls at dancing today. It was so good to be back with We missed dancing class so much when Charlotte was injured. Miss Ellie had some fab suggestions of how Charlotte could catch up and it was lovely to see her back with her friends! Yay! Such a lovely class if you're looking for dancing (again, not an Ad, just a very relieved Mummy!)

A huge thank you to the very kind and extremely helpful Anne Pain, principle of Stagecoach Performing Arts Cirencester for going above and beyond to welcome Charlotte yesterday on a trial evening. I honestly cannot recommend Stagecoach Cirencester, or the lovely Anne, enough. Charlotte was looking for performing arts on very specific days atm as she recovers from an injury and this is just the ticket. Anne has gone out of her way to be warm and welcoming to us both. (Not an Ad, just a very impressed Mum wanting to share her experience!) Today Charlotte returns to dancing (eeek!) so fingers crossed with that too and then to add more lessons and experiences to her performance training!

Merry Christmas from The Paynes! H is feeling a bit post viral today so having extra cuddles, Charlotte had a sewing machine and all the trimmings for Christmas so she's been totally ABSORBED with that, Daddy is cooking up some very festive aromas from the kitchen and I'm just keeping it all ticking over. Hope you all have a lovely day. Peace on earth and goodwill to all.

Every year James makes us an absolutely cracking gluten free Christmas Dinner. This year he's had to make it lactose free as well and it looks like he's done brilliantly once again. James, you are a top Christmas chef, thank you so much for your very valuable contribution to our Christmas 🎄

Ps only J would wear a christmas jumper and shorts to Christmas Dinner!

Happy Birthday Charlotte! Well at 8am I was all smug, Charlotte had opened every present and was eating her French toast for Birthday breakfast... we had given her a proper birthday breakfast mini party and were still on track for school time. Daddy isn't normally at home when we leave for school so he said he'd get Charlottes shoes, coat, hat etc on whilst I put mine on. At 8.20 I said the immortal words to James "Don't let her faff around - just approach it like an Formula 1 pit stop" at 8.25 James went to put her in the car but instead shouted to me "you've got a flat tyre!!!!" OMG! Luckily he changed it in 8 minutes and we arrived to school (driving less than 50mph all the way!) at 8.44! Yay! I do hope the rest of the day goes smoother than this!!!

Halloween is Henrys favourite holiday! Is it the costumes? Is it the candy? Is it the bats which double as moustaches? Who knows! But he loves it which drives us to think of new Halloween adventures each spooky season, and ofcourse they must be accessible and open to both of them, so it can be a stretch. Big thanks to for having us for this spooktacular Halloween Eve photoshoot yesterday which H obviously loved because he was very good about the costume changes and bright lights! (Not usually his favourite things)

A small plea at Halloween on behalf of all mothers of children who are not in the mains stream:
We know that it can be hard to spot children with disabilities when they're all dressed up, or see that the costumed kid in front of you isn't a teenager but a taller than average junior school pupil, or genuine teens are at your door and it's their last ever trick or treating. So when you put your pumpkin out tonight, leave your judgement behind, keep an open mind at your front door. You might be greeting a Henry, not a surly teenager who doesn't thank you, but a small boy in a man's body who is so over stimulated that he won't even process this excitement for hours! Thank you.
