Join us at The Three Cups Inn this Saturday and for the rest of July for Athelstan1100 related crafts.

This week we will be making bunting for you to hang in your window. A combination of wood and linen triangles which you can decorate with paint pens and iron on vinyl. Simply cut your motifs and I’ll iron them on for you! The effect is fantastic! Then we can thread ribbon or string through making your commemorative bunting into a new family keepsake!

From 11-12 noon then head over to St Mary’s Hall for the Big Dig treasure hunt!

The pub is open from 11 so coffees available and pizzas served from 12 noon!

Really looking forward to “Space for Nature Wild” on Sunday. We’ll be making our own 🦋 passports and heading out to see if we can spot any. We’ll also be learning about host plants and the butterfly life cycle and eco-system as well as making individual moth observatories to take home and if we have time your very own Festival butterfly wings, crowns or puppets! An Abbey, the market cross, a sweet factory, a police station, a pub, an ice cream parlour, some modernist architecture, a corner cafe and some cottages made for a lovely engineering and design led craft session this afternoon that we organised and ran for for Caerbladon.

We even made a little Eric to sit outside the Summer Cafe but he blew away.

All works of art can be collected from Caerbladon by prior arrangement o. Tuesday.

What a fantastic morning we had at our first ever Space for Nature WILD fo this morning. There were about 20 of us exploring this interesting site on the Marlborough Downs. Located underneath Hackpen woods this was the first time we have held a public event there and it exceeded expectations.

The children found woodlice, snails, bones, moss, fungi, lychen and one child even spotted a little shrew that scurried away. Lots of birds going about their everyday, unperturbed by us, and even though the sky was overcast and there was a light drizzle in the air our spirits weren’t dampened.

We started off with a warm-up and get-to-know-each-other bird feeder activity then we discussed our topic for the session which was water and ice. We looked at the water cycle and at what stage and conditions water turns to ice. I brought samples of ice orbs and frozen ice which we placed outside and then we melted down some ice on our saucepan which took around 30 minutes (quite long considering and much too long to make a cup of tea with). Fortunately we had flasks and all enjoyed hot drinks with toasted marshmallows (on the wood burner this time). The highlight was fire starting which we did undercover in aluminium trays. The children showed much perseverance at learning to use and succeeding to light their little balls of cotton wool. We ended the session by looking in my almanac and recounting the folklore story of Beira, the Scottish Godess of Frost.

Well done to everyone who came and made a reindeer hobby horse today at - we had a great time and I loved the mix of ages all who fully delved into the tasks required of them! I hope your reindeer friends like their new homes for Christmas!!

Come along and make your very own reindeer hobby horse on Friday 23rd December at Renew Malmesbury. Using rustic materials watch your seasonal friend come to life before you trot home together.

Sessions at 9.45 and 11am
£4.50 per child - includes all materials but please bring an old sock!

Tea, coffee, squash and biscuits provided.
Suitable for ages 4 plus. Children need to be accompanied.

I ran a lovely workshop today for over 7+ making bunting with both fabric triangles and wax paper triangles. We used a variety of techniques including sewing leaves onto the triangles! Pressed leaves are ironed inbetween the wax paper and when held up in a window , with the leaves shining through, the leaves stand out and the hunting comes alive. The results are simply stunning and hopefully will make the girls’ homes look festive over Halloween. Thanks RENEW Malmesbury for having us!

It was lovely to attend over the bank holiday weekend. Between the two headdress workshops that I ran I think we made around 170 headdresses. Lovely seeing people making something that they can then wear!

Cottages, a castle, shops, police station, fire station and more were built at our cardboard village session for Avebury National Trust yesterday. Such fun - it never ceases to amaze me how much kids love playing with cardboard and how their imaginations just soar!
