A few weeks ago I openly spoke out about how bullies affected my life and my personal battle with bulimia as a teen.

According to the NHS, around 1 in 250 women and 1 in 2,000 men will experience some form of an eating disorder in their lifetime.

Did you know bulimia is around 5 times more common than anorexia and 90% of people with bulimia are young women aged 13-17 years old.

As a mum who has gone through this, it scares me to think that my daughter could grow up to become one of these young women.

Since sharing my story, I've had an overwhelming response of support from private messages, to wonderful comments from parents who's children have attended my parties.

Our children live in a world where the media portray a certain look and body image as 'perfect'. Our young women aspire to be like these woman they see on our TV screens or the pages of glossy magazines.

As a child we are still discovering and figuring out who we are as a person which can make us feel like we don't conform of fit into the crowd.

My aim is for storybook parties to build a child's confidence and promote their self esteem but for me, the most important thing I want to teach young girls is to always be themselves, even if that means choosing black eyeshadow 💜

The past few days I've had a poorly little girl.
It's awful seeing your child unwell, Whiskey my dog has never left her side they honestly are the best of friends!

My daughter is obsessed with unicorns and kept asking me for a 'real' one to make her feel better! I didnt have the heart to tell her they don't exist, so I gave her the next best thing,
a labrador.......I mean labicorn 💜😉🦄

How adorable does he look! He is such a big softie and he put the biggest smile on Jessica's face.

I'm pleased to say she's feeling alot better and these two are back to getting up to lots of mischief together!

I had so much fun today with Macey and all her friends at her pamper party.

This is the second time I've done a party for Macey, last year she chose a princess theme and this year she celebrated with a unicorn themed party! 🦄

I'm off to Stanley this afternoon for today's party with my selfie frame in hand, of course my little girl had to be in a picture 💜

Today's party will be the second pamper party I've done for today's birthday girl! I'm honoured to have been asked for a second year in a row to give her an amazing party!

ALOT goes on behind the scenes here at storybook parties.

The first picture is me in my kitchen this morning getting ready to leave for a marketing training session with Michelle Rose from Custard and Bear (pictured in the second picture)

I attend monthly buisness training with The Savvy Solos Business Club working on and developing my buisness to be THE BEST.

Unfortunately I don't have a fairy godmother or a magical lamp, but I do have sheer determination and 15 years beauty industry experience and knowledge.

I have big plans for storybook parties future.
I work very very hard and I'm very very passionate about what I do.

This fab group of girls from the weekend described my party as "the best party ever"
and they all asked me if I could do a birthday party for them!

One of the girls said to me...."We all think your really nice and everyone wants to be your friend because you do cool parties"

When it was time for me to leave I got a hug and a thank you off all the girls!

I had so much fun yesterday with Scarlett and her friends at her unicorn party. Scarlett enjoyed her party so much that she asked me to come back and do it again next year 💜 and she loved the bracelet I made her as a birthday gift! Happy 8th birthday from storybook parties.

Today I took my little girl to the Disney store to look for inspiration for my pamper parties.......well that's what I'm telling myself!

Any excuse to go to the Disney store 🤣
My husband usually drags me passed the doors but he can't stop me if he's not there!!

I'm just a big kid at heart! I could have spent a fortune but I managed to resist and I only bought one thing 🙈

I was unable to post this yesterday as my page crashed.

It's Wednesday which is the busiest day of the week for me. My little girl stays with her Grandma on a Wednesday which means that mummy has plenty of time to prepare everything I need for my next pamper party.
I have tried to party prep with my 2 year old and it wasn't fun 🤣

I'm full of busy stocking up on hair accessories, nail polish, bubble wands, stickers, party prizes and endless rolls of wrapping paper for pass the parcel.

There is only me running storybook parties which means I prepare everything for your party myself including party bags (I've only got 50 to put together this month) 🙈

This is why I can only do one party per day.
Weekends are very popular and fill up quick.
I do provide parties after school providing I have childcare. If you have a date in mind then please get in touch, its never too early to book.

Today is International Woman's Day 2019

Today is world book day. The one day of the year when children across the country get to dress as their favourite character from their favourite storybook.

My favourite children's book is Matilda by Roald Dahl. A story of a little girl who is unwanted and unaccepted by her family because she is different.

Let me tell you my story.

My reasons for creating storybook parties are driven by one thing- BULLIES

As a child I was bullied for the way that I look, my weight, for being ME and not choosing to follow the crowd.

My bullies shattered my confidence made me feel worthless and ugly. I soon found myself battling with an eating disorder until I was 22 years old and why? Because other people didn't like the way that I looked.

I'm now 31 and I can honestly tell you that it has taken me a very very long time to learn to love myself.

As a mum of a young daughter the most important life lessons I want to teach her are
1) To value her self worth
2) To love herself for who she is

The same applies to my business.

My aim is for storybook parties to make every little girl feel beautiful, increase a child's confidence and promote their self esteem.

A child at one of my parties asked me for black eye shadow and to paint her nails black, she then told me that "The other girls think I'm weird".

It was in that moment that I was reminded of my childhood, to which I replied
"Its ok to be different" "Always be yourself".
She then smiled at me and said
"Thank you, you have made me feel pretty".

I may not have Matilda Wormwood's magical powers, but if I can make one little girl with unique qualities feel pretty, then I strongly believe that me and my business CAN and WILL make a difference to this world.

This is the reason why I do what I do, this is what drives me, this is my passion,
this is my mission, this is my story!

STAND UP TO BULLIES

Your RIGHT and their wrong, your BIG and their small, and there IS something you can do about it!

It was just the other day when a customer of mine said to me.....................

"Kate, your pamper parties are very unique".

This got me thinking what makes my pamper parties a unique experience for children?

All of the packages are designed and created by me. At storybook parties I makeover the child into their favourite fairytale character, they choose the story and I create the magic.

I put alot of thought and passion into creating age appropriate pamper packages for children aged 3 years up to teens to enjoy.
I carefully design the hair styles and make-up looks so that each child looks and feels as pretty as a princess or as magical as a unicorn.

I have taken my knowledge of working as a professional beauty therapist and created a spa party package that provides grown up girly fun for pre-teens.

I'm also a mum and I love nothing more than spending quality time with my daughter, which gave me the inspiration behind my mummy and me pamper sessions. (You can see us reading a story together in this video) 💜

So the answer to what makes storybook parties unique is ME, and I'm very proud of that!
