I have sold out of everything now for the last time. I will miss welcoming you to my kitchen and chatting about our weeks, histories, experiences, and heritages.

It is with mixed feelings that I announce the closure of Akl in Copmanthorpe. Many things have contributed to this decision but most of all is my availability to my family.

Akl will be open this Friday and Saturday as normal (9am-2pm). Then, to use up my dry goods and spices, on Friday 19th July, I will host a goodbye buffet from 7pm. Seating will be limited but standing room will be available. Tickets will be £20, to book yours please email [email protected]

I am also selling my furniture and equipment so please get in touch if you are interested. Otherwise I will post pictures of the items for sale later in the week.

Thank you for making the past two years incredibly enjoyable and I do hope you continue to seek out Palestinian food where you can get it.

Shatta is a chilli condiment typical of Gaza and one that my grandparents and my aunt would make and distribute across the family when we all lived in the same country. There will be 10 jars available and they will be given out on a first come first served basis. If there is more demand than supply, I will also do an August batch 🙏🏼 🇵🇸

Hi everyone! Due to a high number of events this weekend, I will not be able to open Akl. BUT, two of these events are public if you would like to attend.

1) Friday 1st March - International Women's Day Of Prayer (all welcome) hosted by English Martyrs Church on Dalton Terrace 2pm. The country represented this year is Palestine and I will be selling some sweet things.

2) Saturday 2nd March - Palestinian women's showcase at from 3pm - 7pm. I will be talking about Akl and Feeding The Rest and my Palestinian heritage. All relevant information on instagram page.

If you can't make either of these events, I'll see you next week!

It was such a privilege to do all my jobs this weekend! But I'll maybe try and not cram so much into 3 days next time! A special thanks to @stablesyoga for asking to cater their 10th anniversary meal - significant because my first ever supper club was hosted there. And another special thanks to @uoypalsoc for inviting me to talk about my business and my heritage, and showcasing Palestinian women.

What a lovely evening we had at the supper club! The first maqlouba I ever made for a supper club and it turned out pretty well - if a bit dark. The eagle eyed among you will have noticed from my website that I am now cooking weekly on days where I am not at Akl (the hub). Once a week I work in a family home making balanced meals for them to use throughout the week. With that in mind, due to other client commitments, I have decided to close Akl on a Thursday from January. The first opening day of 2024 will be Friday 5th January and I will be open Fridays and Saturdays ONLY going forward.
