The Village Hall Committee have worked hard this year making improvements to Gretton Village Hall. We were grateful to the generosity of the late Jeff Ward who left us money in his will. Some of the improvements aren't immdeiately noticeable so we wanted to update you on what we have done so far. We have decorated the Meeting Room (which also has new tables and chairs), cloakroom areas and the kitchen and bar. We have replaced the boiler in the kitchen and have a new water heater in the bar. There is a new solid fence at the back of the Hall and a ranch type one at the front, The garden areas have been cleared. The front disabled parking area has been re tarmaced. We funded a de-fibrillator on the front wall to add to those already available in the village.
We now have WIFI available for hirers and also a card reader for taking payments!
There are more improvements planned including re-painting the outside (including the bus stop) and after new heating has been fitted the Main Hall will be decorated. We are planning to replacing the main lighting with LED lights to be more energy efficient.
I have added a photos of some of the improvements.
Thank you for your continued support for the Village Hall - we are always on the look out for volunteers to help with the running of the hall and also to help with the Village Lunches. Please contact me for more information.

Gretton Village Hall - Northamptonshire :

We have a Committee who are working hard to make the Village Hall a welcoming place for hirers. We need volunteers, we have a group of villagers who have come forward to help cook and serve at the Village Lunch but we still need more residents to step forward and help.

A hackneyed phrase but WE NEED YOU! Please consider giving up some time to help on our Committee. You can help continue the good work already put in by willing villagers over the last 60 years. Anyone who can help please email Liz Watt on: [email protected] and she can have a chat with you. You will be made most welcome.

A statement from Gretton Village Hall Committee:
It has been heartening at a time of so much concern over the recent party at the Hall that we have so many supporters in the village. The general consensus is that Gretton Village Hall should remain as it has been for 60 years โ€“ an important Community Hub for the village. It is a Nominated Community Asset and certainly isnโ€™t going to shut down. In the last month it has catered for many in our community, ranging from Mums and Tots to a 90th Birthday party. Many residents have enjoyed hosting/ attending parties there over the years.
All our lives have changed in the last few years and the Committee has constantly been taking action to reduce the impact of parties/events on locals. Some of the decisions put into action over the last couple of years have been: adding extra terms and conditions to the already comprehensive document, hirers are required to sign this to agree. Hirers who havenโ€™t complied are banned from future bookings. Deposits were raised for parties and the booking has to be paid in full before they can access the Hall, non residents parties are charged at double the standard rates. Parties were restricted to 2 a month. Following a residentโ€™s teenager party a few weeks ago the booking secretary has asked for someone over 18 to confirm the booking and stipulated that an adult needs to be on site at all times and no alcohol will be provided. The Bar in the Hall is only stocked with glasses and appropriate equipment.
Following the party last week, we have taken further action, after discussions with Community Police as to the best way forward. For the next few months we will not be taking any evening party bookings โ€“ the need for extra security would have made costs prohibitive. We are aware that the village could be the target for further disturbances due to postings on social media. There will be no more teenager party bookings taken. All of these actions will of course impact on our income and other fees may need raising as a result. Other decisions made have been to fit noise limiters and quotes are being sourced for these and for Sound limiting fence panels at the back of the Hall. We have cancelled 3 upcoming evening events โ€“ causing inconvenience for the hirers at such short notice.
We have a Committee who are working hard to make the Village Hall a welcoming place for hirers. We put on the popular Village Lunch once a month and also events such as the Quiz, plays, music evenings and a Murder Mystery event which is being planned for next year. We also host a Bridge Drive twice a year. All these things need volunteers, we have a group of villagers who have come forward to help cook and serve at the Village Lunch but we still need more residents to step forward and help.
