Harry Fehr makes his English National Opera début with a vibrant new staging of Donizetti’s The Elixir of Love (L’elisir d’amore). The production opens at the London Coliseum on November 15 with additional performances on November 20, 23 (matinee), 27, 30, December3 and 5 (matinee).

In this inventive adaptation, set amidst the height of World War II, Fehr reframes Donizetti’s opera buffa as a charming 1940s TV sitcom....

Director Harry Fehr's production of Cavalleria Rusticana for Blackheath Halls Opera opens on September 23 with a brief run to September 29. Fehr has a long term commitment to the work of this amazing community opera company. Tenor Hugo Hymas is a featured soloist at the Leicester International Music Festival. He joins festival director Nicholas Daniel and the Carducci Quartet on September 19 for Warlock The Curlew and on September 21 performs Elena Langer’s song cycle The Mind Garden alongside Vaughan Williams’ On Wenlock Edge. Later in the month he will record Stravinsky Cantata with The Facade Ensemble and sings Handel Judas Maccabeus in Varaždin, Croatia.

Soprano Stephanie Hershaw makes her début at the Oldenburgisches Staatstheater singing Ännchen Der Freischütz with performances from September 18 to January 18 (double cast). As a member of the ensemble she will also perform Gretel Hansel & Gretel, Romilda Xerxes and the title role The Cunning Little V***n for the company this season.

Soprano Camilla Harris makes her BBC Proms début as Helena in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream on September 10. The performance is a semi staging of this summer’s superb Garsington production and will be broadcast on Radio 3 and BBC Sounds. Of her Garsington performance The Telegraph commented “Among the four lovers the most compelling was Camilla Harris as Helena, who filled the auditorium with her voice and charisma and has the talent to have a stunning future.” Camilla will reprise the role for her Opera North debut this autumn.

Yet again this small company is producing amazing work with superb casting in the magical surroundings of Belcombe Court in Wiltshire. Performances run to the end of August. Philip Koccheim’s staging is a co-production with Theater Osnabruck whose Chief Conductor, Andrea Hotz, leads the performances on August 23, 24 and 27 at Musikhuset Aarhus. This important work explores the hypocrisy of otherwise well-intentioned citizens confronted with the reality of sharing resources with refugees....
