UPDATE: No emails have gone out yet, so don't panic!!!!! BT are trying to sort out why Pam can't send emails at the mo, it may take another day or two, because they can't find the problem. We are currently trying to set up a new email address to avoid any problems in the future, but as you can appreciate, copying over the mailing list of email addresses will take time. I will announce on here when it's sorted and when the emails have been sent, so no one will miss out - Pam is very sorry but at the mercy of BT and random changes they have been making xx

Just to let you know, Pam is in the process of sending out emails, but BT have been making some changes recently and she's having problems sending them all together. You should all receive your email within the next 24 hours, please don't panic if a friend has got their email and you haven't received yours - it will arrive.

Class 3 – Creative Embroidery Techniques with Rachel Bunney
Exclusively for Brother and Bernina embroidery machine owners!

Get those embroidery machines working hard, creating a collection of samples to show as many machine techniques as possible using a whole host of different stabilisers too! So what will you learn? Well, you’ll learn a variety of appliqué techniques, plus trapunto, cutwork, chenille, puffy foam to name but a few! There are at least 16 techniques for you to try out and experiment with - either to keep as samples (labelled with all the information needed to refer to at any time), or you can make them into a truly unique item such as a mini quilt, bag or cushion cover. The choice is yours!

Rachel has put together a kit costing approx. £35 (payable to Rachel at the weekend) containing everything you’ll need for this class
- Fabric, stabilisers, wadding – all cut and ready to use
- Threads
- USB stick loaded with the embroidery technique designs
- Clips and sample info cards

Extra Projects. There will be an opportunity to try out some other projects – such as embroidering directly onto card or creating your very own mini ‘in the hoop’ design layering elements on your machine's screen. More details will be on the requirements list. No embroidery software is required on this workshop but if you do have software, do bring it along with your laptop…

Here's your next taster for January!!!!

Class 2 - Wild Gardens or Bluebell Woods - with Kate Findlay

Kate’s Wild Gardens workshop went down so well last April, I asked her to come back to KOS again. Luckily, she said yes!! Of course, those who did Kate’s workshop last year may want to do a different project this time, so this time it’s the stunning Bluebell Woods - just the job to brighten your mood on a dreary January weekend. Just look at those fab blues of the bluebells and those gorgeous trees!

If you missed the workshop last year, don’t worry as you’ll have the opportunity to do Wild Gardens this time because the January choice will be either Bluebell Woods or Wild Gardens! And, whichever you choose, you’ll learn how to do the other - so it’s a win win situation!!

Kate is a fab teacher bringing lots of the things you need for the workshop for a kit fee of just £15 – so the requirements list is soooo easy! That’s my kind of class!!

On this workshop you’ll collage together a preprepared fabric background, use stamps and ink, applique some flowers and leaves, add tree trunks and use a confetti technique applique before adding stitching!

Here are just a few tasters of what you can achieve with Kate...

Is everyone ready for a little taster on whats to come at the next KOS????

Class 1 - In The Trenches – with Janice Croft
Rainwear to be seen in!! Things have moved on from the traditional beige trench coat with a belt and capelet details -to the latest trend in pleated skirt trench coats or to a more relaxed colourful short coat with a hood. The choice is yours - so many fabrics to choose from - plain, novelty prints, camouflage, Liberty and William Morris are current faves…

Using waterproof cotton fabric, or water repellent fabric like gaberdine or polyblends for more warmth, you can create a unique design for the perfect rainwear for you. Ripstop nylon, soft waterproof canvas - both ideal to keep in the car or make a parka with a hood, deep pockets and shaped hem or maybe the casual pacamac styling.

This class is all about the lightweight coat. There are loads of patterns to choose from and any fabric you choose that isn’t already waterproof can be prewashed with Nikwax to make it water repellent (more details will be in the requirements list). So, join Janice to have fun designing and making it your own!!

Here's your next teaser......

Janice is not only our dressmaking guru but she also teaches fantastic bag making workshops, so if you’re a ‘bag lady’ you’ll enjoy this class as there’s lots to choose from. Make one or more.... Bring your fabric and creativity, leave with a bag or two that you will love!
1. The Weekender Bag- Versatile carrier for all your clothes and toiletries. Big enough to cope and easy to carry. You may have seen a few of these around KOS still going strong. With its secret pocket, built in handles and sleeve to sit on a wheeled trolley, it’s made for travelling!
2. Sewing Machine Bag – Suitable for the smaller machines you take to class that only come with a plastic cover - this bag adds protection and looks good too! Made to measure it will be the perfect size to carry your machine safely in the car or store at home. Slip in a project or two and you’re good to go!
3. The Quilt as You Go Bag – ‘Stitch and Flip’ – ‘Franken’ - whatever you call this technique - it makes the most unique bag. Using scrap fabric with a foam or wadding back create a one-of-a-kind bag. Great stash buster! Any shape, any size with fabric/webbing or bought leather handles - the choice is yours!
4. Jelly Roll Bag The ever popular jelly roll bag! Another great stashbuster – so you don’t even need to buy a jelly roll....! Once you have the ‘tube technique’ mastered you can make the original design or come up with a few creations of your own. Lots of optional extras to add and a variety of closures and handles.

Jamie – his official title is ‘Senior product manager - Sergers and Accessories’ – but don’t let that put you off.. LOL) is teaching this workshop. Whether you’re a machine embroidery novice or an ‘old hand’ there’s bound to be some things you’ve never tried before (or maybe forgotten??), so let’s put these machines through their paces!!

You’ll create enough squares to make a sampler quilt/table runner/bag - whatever you fancy. Designs include Thread velvet, Chenille flowers, Cutwork (to make reverse applique), Yarn couching, Twin needle, Quilting using the Endless hoop (for borders), 3D Popup flowers, Felting (free standing using wool tops), Patchwork in the hoop using the metal hoops, plus lots more! Hi Everyone

Thank you soooo much for coming to KOS. What a fantastic weekend. Kos wouldn’t work without you. What a talented bunch you are (much more so than some of you give yourselves credit for!!)

All the workshops were buzzing and the feedback from all the quality of teaching has been amazing so huge thanks to our tutors (all new to KOS by the way) who went far beyond the call of duty.

It was so lovely to have Kate Findlay with us – such a patient and talented teacher. Every Wild Gardens picture was so different – I’m just glad I wasn’t asked to pick a favourite ‘cos it would have been impossible. I wish I could have done her workshop too - but she will be back, and fingers crossed I’ll have time to sit and do a lovely art project with her next time.

Our very own Helen Smith with her Teddy Bear workshop – well, what can I say – every bear looked so professional. I was secretly hoping someone would forget to take theirs home so I could pinch it!!! And what a lovely teacher Helen is – I hope she’ll agree to teach some more of her lovely projects at a future KOS!

Hayley West (or as Rozzie calls her ‘Hayley off the telly’) - what a clever and laid-back teacher with such inventive projects – all completely different - from the Project Tote Bag to the Embellished Denim Jacket - and I know she has lots more up her sleeve…pardon the pun! So, watch this space!

Finally, the talent in the DIY section was stunning – I do hope you post your projects on KOS fb to show what you do. Such diverse projects - you are an inspiration to all of us.

My grateful thanks goes to my lovely right hand gal Rozzie - no way could I manage without her - she reminds me of stuff I forget and keeps everything ticking over at KOS weekends - not to mention her having a louder voice than me for announcements !!

We raised so much money with the charity drives that several charities will benefit including Cancer Research, Guide Dogs, Myton Hospice and Healing Hands (Ukraine) and well as Acorn’s Children’s hospice and Redwings Horse Sanctuary. So, thank you all for taking part and special thanks to those who brought gifts in for the raffle and for all the toiletries, pills and ‘stuff’ for Sue’s forthcoming aid for Ukraine trip.

I’ll send out details of July’s KOS as soon as they are finalised, so check out your inbox towards the back end of May.

Thanks again,

Take care

Pam xx
