Sharing today the second in our series of Project:Public conversations ⭐️🎥
Earlier in the year, the fab Dr. Helen Wheatley sat down with Project:Public commissioned artist Adele Mary Reed to chat about and explore her multi-dimensional work Polaroids, Podcasts and Perambulation. Watch the video in full along with the piece itself: https://theatreabsolute.co.uk/commissions/polaroids-podcasts-perambulation/
Helen and Adele chatted about the background of the work, spontaneity, collaboration, and walking as a subject matter in artistic practice, amongst other topics.
Many thanks to Talking Birds for hosting and Chris O'Connell who produced the video.
Project:Public Conversations Part 1: Julia and Chris chat to Justine Themen - teaser
Delighted to share the first in a new series of video Conversations around our current work Project:Public 🥳 🎥
Julia and Chris sat down with Justine Themen, who, as a practitioner and director, has collaborated with Theatre Absolute many times. Watch the video in full at our website: https://theatreabsolute.co.uk/projects/project-public/
They talked about life since leaving the Shop Front Theatre, and adapting to a post-venue climate. Indeed, after over 30 years as a professional company making work in many different ways, what might a new phase of work look like.
Many thanks to Talking Birds for hosting us at The Nest!
A Saturday morning treat. Bumped into Coventry's #1 culture vulture yesterday, Alan Van Wijgerden, and so, not unlike he has done to others for the last 5 years, stuck a camera in his face!
New commission incoming!
👀 Coming soon, as part of our Project:Public series, Frontier is a short film about cycling from Lanzarote to Fuerteventura, and back again.
It is a story about being inbetween.
Chris O’Connell spent 10 days cycling in the Canary Islands contemplating the liminal, his relationship to the public, to the time between ‘what was’ and what is next.
Here is a short clip but we look forward to sharing more about the commission soon! 🚴♂️

This year Theatre Absolute has been reimagining our working methods after closing the Shop Front Theatre. To engage in what it means to work in a post-venue landscape, we commissioned Adele Mary Reed to explore alongside us what is important to her in the city, as an artist, and through the notion of the word ‘public’. One of her outputs was a super8 short film made in collaboration with Chris O'Connell and Julia Negus.
Here’s a little snippet but you can see the film in full on our YouTube 🎥 🍿 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vvE9ukNa-0I
We look forward to exploring these themes further in 2024 so stayed tuned! Have a lovely festive season all 🥂 xx
