Warwick Africa Summit The Warwick Africa Summit is a student-organised and led interdisciplinary conference focused on the development of the African continent.

The summit presents a platform to address the different challenges faced by the continent through the multi- disciplinary keynote speeches and panels related to economic development, sustainability, human development, technology and arts and culture. Our speakers range from politicians, bankers, entrepreneurs and activists to philanthropists who have dedicated their lives to unlocking the continen

t’s true potential. We aim to generate engagement, innovation, and collaboration between students, academics, and practitioners, as well as raise awareness of a continent which is not always understood. We also address the potential that African nations can realise once fully integrated and generate ideas, policies and initiatives that can facilitate the continent’s journey to sustainable development. Past speakers include Lord Dr Michael Hastings, Tiwa Ogunlesi, Kiki Mordi, Anas Aremeyaw Anas and Mr Eazi.

On our Changing the Narrative panel we have Joel Mordi (He/Him/They/Them) 🇳🇬

Joel Mordi, members and volunteers of his non-profit: Mordi Ibe Foundation (MIF) organised Nigeria's first ever month-long “all-inclusive” Pride protests across 15 locations in Abuja and Lagos including first ever: gay, bi, trans, intersex, le***an pride amongst others. And were also a part of the first ever reclaim pride event in the UK. MIF was founded by Joel Mordi in 2015 and is Nigeria's only Charity catering for young LGBT+ students and vulnerable people to keep them in school, including young girls experiencing "period poverty”. Joel is the current LGBT+ undergraduate of the year award winner by Clifford Chance and Target Jobs, and SMK "amplifying voice award" recipient under Safe Passage Intl (young leaders). Joel has just done a documentary with the Guardian on LGBT digital exclusion/poverty and spoken in the Conservative and Labour conferences on rising LGBT homelessness, Banning conversion Therapy amongst, Trans issues amongst others.

One of our keynotes is Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe 🇿🇦

Trained as a medical doctor specialising in child and women’s health, Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe is a philanthropist, Chancellor of the University of Cape Town (UCT), and an entrepreneur who founded African Fashion International in 2007.

Co-Founder and CEO of the Motsepe Foundation – one of the largest philanthropic organisations on the continent – Dr Moloi-Motsepe serves from their headquarters in South Africa. Through her leadership, the Motsepe Foundation has expanded to have an African footprint and extensive global networks and partnerships.

Her philanthropic efforts include emergency response initiatives for the Ebola outbreak in 2014, cyclone Idai in 2019, and the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. The Motsepe Family, in partnership with companies and organisations associated with it, pledged R1 billion in 2020 to assist with the COVID-19 pandemic and its related challenges confronting South Africa and the African Continent. Dr Moloi-Motsepe, during this time, initiated a gender-balanced procurement process to equally distribute the funds earmarked for PPEs and related services to women-owned businesses.

Leveraging her global networks, Dr Moloi-Motsepe launched the Milken-Motsepe Prize in 2021 with the Milken Institute. The prize aims to pilot an inclusive approach to philanthropy by investing in diverse solutions that would solve Africa’s intractable challenges. Drawing from the development of fourth-industrial technologies, the prize is open to ideas and entrepreneurs worldwide.

Her Excellency Fatoumatta Bah Barrow is the First Lady of The Gambia. She has played a prominent role in empowering the most vulnerable populations, both directly in her public role as the First Lady of Gambia and through the founding of her Foundation. The Fatoumatta Bah Barrow Foundation (‘FaBB’) is a non-profit organization that supports disadvantaged communities, women, children and vulnerable groups in The Gambia, was established for charitable purposes aimed at benefitting areas in health, orphans, children, widows, youth and women through educational projects and social development programmes. Founded on May 1, 2017, the foundation’s motto and vision is “to bring relief and empower the vulnerable and disadvantaged in The Gambia, for an opportunity to dwell and carry a new hope for a brighter future.” Madam Fatoumatta Bah Barrow is actively engaged in various humanitarian and charitable organisations.

Bienaime Alusa is a globally recognised, Grammy awardwinning songwriter, musician, and celebrated vocalist from Kenya.

Bien is one-fourth of the globally celebrated boy band Sauti Sol, dominating the charts for over 15 years. Bien has commanded respect across the continent, and the world over, for his musicianship.
Bien is best known for his raspy vocals, his beautiful songwriting, his infectious personality, and his bald head! Bien's first solo EP was entitled 'Bald Men Love Better'. This project birthed the East African summer hit of 2022 'Mbwe Mbwe', one of the highest streamed East African songs of 2022, with YouTube views exceeding 12 million views. Renee is a creative portfolio entrepreneur, speaker and content creator with a background in education technology, social entrepreneurship and community building. Renee is passionate about gender equality, specifically access to education and financial capital for women across the globe. She is co-founder of To My Sisters, and has worked in edtech, fintech and social impact investment organisations. Renee is also a distinguished writer with a passion for self-growth and productivity. Kennedy Ekezie-Joseph is the Founder and CEO of Kippa, a fintech startup that provides digital payments and software solutions for small businesses. Kippa has raised over $10M USD from global fintech investors in under 2 years since its inception. Before Kippa, he lived in Beijing for 2 years, where he led user acquisition and growth for TikTok's expansion to Africa. Kennedy started his career in Management Consulting at Accenture.

Kennedy received the Young African Leaders Fellowship from President Barack Obama and the Queen’s Young Leader Award from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Kennedy was awarded the Yenching Scholarship to attend Peking University in China, where he attained a Master’s degree in Economics & Management and also received the ‘Distinguished Research Award’ in Economics and Management. He also received a Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy from the University of Calabar, being the youngest ever student to graduate from the university a few days after turning 19. While attending Calabar, he was the record-holder for the highest-ranked competitive debater in Nigeria for 2 years.

Kennedy is passionate about unlocking socio-economic prosperity in Africa and helping other young people unearth purpose and meaning in their lives.

Bandy Kiki is a distinguished member of the LGBT+ community, celebrated for her advocacy and entrepreneurship. As the visionary founder of Kikum Consulting, a dynamic marketing and branding consultancy, Kiki has empowered countless businesses and organisations to cultivate a bold and impactful brand identity.

Kiki also serves as a trustee for Rainbow Migration, an esteemed charity committed to providing crucial support for LGBT+ individuals seeking asylum in the United Kingdom. She is also a valued trustee for Black Beetle Health, a charity which is dedicated to promoting health, well-being, and equality for LGBTQ+ communities of colour.

Kiki's influence extends beyond traditional platforms, as she has amassed a vast social media following with over 140,000 Instagram followers. Through her platform, Kiki shares her life and activism, offering resources and support for asylum seekers, as well as uplifting messages of hope and empowerment for individuals across the LGBT+ community.

On our Africa Beyond Aid panel, we have Mr Jonathan Offei-Ansah 🇬🇭

In a career spanning more than four decades, Jonathan has written extensively on African business and economy for various London-based publications. He has also written for the UN publication, Africa Recovery (now Africa Renewal), and the New York-based business magazine, The Network Journal. He has also done several news analyses on Africa for BBC World Television, BBC World Service (Radio), and UK’s Sky News. He is currently a regular analyst on Al-Jazeera, Nigeria’s Arise News, Press TV, South Africa’s SABC, China’s CGTN, Turkey’s TRT World and Ghana’s TV3.

In March 1998, Jonathan presented a paper on the Importance of Culture to the Development of Tourism in Africa at the ITB, the world’s biggest tourism fair, held annually in Berlin, Germany. His 2005 article on China’s increasing economic relations with Africa was first runner-up in the Best Published Feature category of the Diageo African Business Reporting Awards.

Jonathan has travelled extensively on the African continent and has a firm grasp of current political, economic and social trends in the region.

On our Africa Beyond Aid panel, we have Ms Amina Zakhnouf 🇲🇦

Amina is the Co-Founder and editor “Je m’engage pour l’Afrique”, a public policy incubator aiming at giving youth a seat at the table in Euro-African policymaking, and making policy knowledge accessible to all. In parallel, she is an Investment Officer at the Fund for Innovation in Development chaired by 2019 Nobel Prize Winner Esther Duflo. Moreover, she teaches Innovation and Entrepreneurship Policies at the prestigious Sciences Po Paris.

In 2021, she was among the 11 youths selected to debate with French President Emmanuel Macron during the France-Africa New Summit in Montpellier 2021. She was named Forbes 30 under 30 by Forbes Africa in 2022.

Comfort Arthur is a British-born Ghanaian award-winning animator, illustrator and visual artist. She trained at the Royal College of Arts before moving to Ghana to set up The Comfy Studio. Her short film Black Barbie has been an international hit and has screened in more than 50 film festivals across the world and has won several awards. In 2020 she released her first children’s picture book under the same name.

Innanoshe Richard Akuson is a New York Times and Washington Post-published writer, lawyer, and founder and former editor-in-chief of A Nasty Boy Magazine, West Africa’s seminal LGBT-affirming digital fashion publication and Nigeria's first Publication of its kind. As a qualified lawyer, he has also published a legal research paper entitled Human Rights and the Anti-Gay Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria’ which critically analyses Nigeria's Same-Sex Marriage Prohibition Act, highlighting the civil and human rights violations it promotes. Innanoshe has also featured on the Forbes Africa 30 Under 20 Changemakers List in 2019 and also on the Forbes Japan 30 Under 30 from the World of Forbes List.

On our Ready, Set, Green panel we have Vanessa Nakate 🇺🇬

Vanessa Nakate, 26, is a Ugandan climate justice activist and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. Inspired by Greta Thunberg, she was Uganda's first youth climate striker, and went on to found the Rise Up Movement - a movement of young people protesting for climate action across Africa. In 2020, Vanessa received global attention after being cropped out of a press photo, taken with other white climate activists, at the World Economic Forum. She now campaigns internationally to highlight the impacts of climate change already playing out on the continent. Vanessa is the author of ‘A Bigger Picture'.

Sola David-Borha is the Chairman Stanbic IBTC Bank Plc. She is also a Non- Executive Director of Stanbic IBTC Holdings Plc, Stanbic Uganda Holdings Limited and Stanbic Bank Uganda Limited. She is an Independent Non-Executive Director of Coca-Cola Hellenic Bottling Company. Sola is currently a PhD candidate at SOAS University of London. She was the Chief Executive for Africa Regions in Standard Bank Group responsible for the Group’s 19 markets in Africa outside South Africa (2017 - 2021). Previously, she was the Chief Executive of Stanbic IBTC Holdings PLC, a full spectrum financial services Holding Company. Prior to that, she was the Chief Executive of Stanbic IBTC Bank PLC, after holding various Executive positions in Corporate Banking, Corporate & Investment Banking and Investment Banking Coverage for Africa (Excluding South Africa). Sola was the Chairperson of the Private Investors for Africa (PIA) until her retirement in 2021, a business coalition of ethically like-minded companies that seeks to improve the business climate on the African Continent. She is an Honorary Senior Member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria Sola is the winner of the CNBC African Business Woman of the Year Award for 2016.

Temilade Salami is the founder and Executive Director of “EcoChampions”, one of Africa’s largest networks of young environmentalists and activists, leading environmental change through climate education, leadership and advocacy. She has spent the past five years leading a group of over 200 young environmentalists across Africa. In this capacity, she has designed and developed various Climate change programs and projects across 26 African countries. Her work supports the integration of Climate Education into Nigeria's education system, and she has authored two environmental books to bridge the climate education gap in Africa. She holds a master's degree in Environment, Development and Policy from the University of Sussex. She also launched the Climate Education Leaders Fellowship in Africa, a program that combines knowledge, expertise, and mentorship to prepare and educate the now and next generation of climate leaders. Her work has been featured multiple times on local and international news platforms such as BBC, TVC, and SKY news. She is currently a member of the UNESCO SDG4Youth network, and the climate education coalition.
