South Lake Leisure Centre will be hosting the 2-day We Dance National Championships this weekend, Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 April 💃🕺🏆 We look forward to welcoming competitors from 12 dance schools across NI as well as the professional dancer judges - Ian Harris, Adam Ashford and Ryan Jenkins! INTRODUCING OUR SECOND JUDGE ADAM ASHFORD Originally from Bangor in Northern Ireland, Adam has had his feet in dance shoes longer than he can remember.

In his earlier years he attended dance classes and the local stage school (McMasters Stage School) where he began learning musical theatre, jazz, tap, contemporary, ballet and made his first performances with touring opera companies and the grand opera house pantomimes.

He was a member of many youth theatre companies where he learned from the best (including Claire “Miss Mac” McMahon) and overseas professionals.

He went on to continue his education at the Urdang Academy in London and since graduating in 2016, he has been fortunate to work on stage and screen in the UK, USA and has recently begun his work as a choreographer and creative director for local artists.

A number of his professional credits include: ”The Jungle Book” (Gaiety Theatre),“Propaganda” (Lyric Theatre), “Disenchanted” (Disney+ original film), “Essentially Cher” (UK Theatre Tour),“MORF” Maiden Voyage Dance Co (The MAC), “La Traviata” and “Die Fledermaus” NI Opera (Grand Opera House), “Tom Jones: A Foundling” (PBS, ITV), “Slaughterhouse Rulez” (Netflix, Sony Pictures), “CHAPTERS” (Vault Artists Studios), “Golden” (Hackney Empire), Baz In “Boogie Wonderland” (Infinity Theatre), Credits in training: Billy Lawlor in “42nd street” (Pleasance Theatre), and Jason in “Hitchhiking Across America” (Finsbury Theatre).

He has worked for choreographers such as Adam Shankman, Isabel Baquero, Arthur Pita, David Ogle, Fleur Mellor, Jennifer Rooney, Dean Lee and Matt Cole.

“Having participated in competitive dancing, I am honoured to come on board as patron for We DANCE Nationals dance competition. My experience adjudicating other competitive events has blown my mind with the ability of young dancers in Ireland and the UK today and I love seeing them put their passion out there in the dance floor. I can relate to the feeling of bringing your best, representing your school and earning the respect for the hours and hours of training, confidence and dedication it takes.”

Whether it’s working with Abby Lee Miller, talent scouting for Simon Cowell's TV show Britain's got talent, choreographing on the hit UK TV show Dance Mums, to choreographing Red Bull’s Formula 1 new racing car launch to being invited by the UK Government to represent Great Britain for National Day at the 2015 Milan Expo. For 2019 and 2018 Ryan has worked on The Greatest Dancer - A TV show for Syco and Freemantle Media for the BBC.

Ryan has worked with the biggest creatives in the world including; Simon Cowell, Abby Lee Miller, Matthew Bourne, Arlene Philips, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Joel Schumacher, Peter Darling, Stephen Mear, Ashley Wallen and Richard Marcel.

He has shared the stage with stars such as; Kerry Ellis, Idina Menzel, Adam Cooper, Miriam Margolyes, Alfie Boe, Michael Ball and Adam Garcia

He has choreographed live events for British Airways, King (creators of Candy Crush), Puma and Samsung for their 2022 worldwide launch of the new flip phone.

Ryan has performed in West End shows: Matthew Bourne’s ‘Swan lake’, ‘Wicked’ (original London cast), ‘Grease’ for Arlene Philips and the Movie ‘Phantom of the Opera'. He was a finalist on BBC's 'So You Think You Can Dance'

He is the founder of iD-Company, a dance examination board with Contemporary, Street and a MT syllabus.
