We're very pleased to announce that SIMON WILLIAMS - of The Archers and Upstairs, Downstairs fame - will be here on Thursday 21 November with his wife LUCY FLEMING (also from The Archers) in POSTING LETTERS TO THE MOON.

A romantic, funny and very touching portrait of life during the second World War featuring readings of letters between Oscar-nominated actress Celia Johnson (Brief Encounter) and her explorer and writer husband Peter Fleming (brother of James Bond creator Ian Fleming) posted to India and the Far East during the war working for Military Intelligence. The letters and give an insight into a young mother’s life coping during the war and tell of Celia Johnson’s experience of filming with Noel Coward, David Lean and her thoughts while making the classic film Brief Encounter in 1945. Not only are the letters highly engaging, but they also provide a fascinating historical insight into that time of true austerity and fearfulness.

‘... simply spellbinding performance...revealing an abundance of love and affection between ordinary people caught in extraordinary times... a theatrical gem’. British Theatre Guide

Tickets are now on sale from our box office on 01483 278000 or using this link to our website: https://cranleigharts.org/event/posting-letters-to-the-moon-with-lucy-fleming-and-simon-williams/

Our gallery is currently hosting our annual Open Exhibition allowing local artists to enter their work - whether painting, sculpture, quiltwork - with a chance to win their own two-week exhibition here next year. On Saturday we welcomed Laura Eastwood from the Born Free Foundation, Steve Glynn (currently artist-in-residence at St Joseph's Specialist Trust), and Laura Walford from Belgravia Galleries to judge the competition - the theme of which was 'Endangered' - and the overall winner was Elizabeth Calthorpe with Cornelia Ahern as runner-up. Do come and see all the submitted work in our gallery for the rest of this week.

Last year we played at Cranleigh Arts for a Jazz Wine and Cheese evening. This Saturday we're back, and we're bringing some new repertoire - as well as our new, ‘live’ album!

Here is a line from our Jazzwise review:

“Hattie Whitehead’s voice is spine- shiveringly like Mitchell’s, and just as full of delicacy, emotion and intelligence…. They are a formidably tight unit, imparting a practised smoothness to the performances. The recording is of optimal quality for a live album too”

See you on Saturday, Cranleigh!

The school holidays aren't yet over but we're already thinking ahead to the October half term when we have something very special for you - an afternoon screening of the Olivier-award winning WOLF WITCH GIANT FAIRY aimed at family audiences. And tickets are just £10 for adults and £8 for under-16s!

Its original production at the Royal Opera House was described by
The Guardian as squishing "three fairy stories together to make a gently subversive family show, infused with folk music, aimed at younger children but with a wry, ageless streak" while Bachtrack said "Wolf Witch Giant Fairy is a fantastic piece, cleverly crafted and brilliantly structured around a brave female character. The play is driven by varied, beautiful music and singing which will help little ears and brains to open up and will spark a love for musical drama in them."

Suitable for ages 5+ tickets are now on sale and you can get yours by clicking here: https://cranleigharts.org/event/roh-wolf-witch-giant-fairy-2024/
