A spine-chilling play by Hugh Janes, based on several original ghost stories by Charles Dickens.

In an ancient, crumbling mansion, sheltering from the howling winds that tear across the surrounding desolate moorland, two men stumble across a dark and terrifying secret that will change both of their lives.

When a young book dealer, David Filde, is employed by a former associate of his uncle to catalogue a private library, he finds an incredible array of rare and antiquated books. But as a series of strange and unexplained events conspires to keep Filde from his work, he realises that if he is to convince his sceptical employer that the mysterious phenomena he is experiencing are real, they must journey together to the very edge of terror, and beyond...

A Tomb With A View is set in as sinister an old library as one is likely to come across presided over by a portrait of a grim faced, mad eyed old man. There, a dusty, lawyer reads a will (involving some millions of pounds) to an equally sinister family one member of which has were wolf tendencies, another wanders around in a toga of Julius Caesar and a third member is a gentle old lady who plants more than seeds in her flower beds. By the third act, there are more corpses than live members left in the cast and what about the sympathetic nurse and the author of romantic novels are they all, or more than, they seem to be? All is revealed as the plot twists and turns to its surprising conclusion.

Dear Members

Yesterday the Ifield Barn Theatre had a MONSTROUS day as the production team for 'Copenhagen' went to Guildford to collect an NODA Accolade of Excellence Award for said production and hoping to also win the Best Drama award for the South East region as well.

It gives me great pleasure to annouce that WE DID.

So it is official 'Copenhagen' was the best drama staged in the south east in 2023.

Congratulations to all involved.
Just to put it in context.
The SE region incorporates Kent, Surrey, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight and both East and West Sussex, hundreds of drama groups.
The IBTS

Copenhagen was directed by Barrie Ward, starring Stewart Lock, Helen Hardwick and Gareth Brownbill 🎭

Charles and Louise Maudesley are horrified to find that Louise’s friend Marjorie appears to be missing. Marjorie’s husband George immediately falls under suspicion. The couple had spotted him at an out of the way hotel with another woman, who was wearing a fabulous diamond necklace, and his explanation for his wife’s disappearance is far from satisfactory.
Diamond Necklace' is a 1950s-style radio thriller in two 'episodes', and designed to be read on stage, with both recorded and live sound effects.

Dear Helen, dear Stewart, (I would write “ dear Gareth” and “ dear Barrie, but I don’t know those emails!)

I was completely bowled over by the production on Friday evening. It’s one of the most amazing plays I’ve seen.

The intensity of deep emotion in your performances was palpable…the angst painful. The balance between the three characters was absolutely perfect, totally believeable and very moving. You clearly got to know them well! I felt so conflicted much of the time…just like them.
It was a deeply moving experience and, I reflected, particularly poignant, as the G7 summit is now taking place in Hiroshima!

I also learnt a great deal of science which I’d never had the opportunity to study at school as thé timetable clashed with the subjects I was really interested in and went on to study further. The way you conveyed the logic of it all was remarkable. Again, serendipity: the day before, I had spent much of a train journey to London listening to a young mum opposite explaining chemical symbols to her daughter and feeling so impressed…and so foolish…in equal measure. How you learnt all that scientific info…and interpreted it so convincingly was totally amazing…much respect to you all!

I thought the set was genius and the moving around so telling and prophetic at times. The groupings were, in themselves, telling the story.

I’m still processing much and I feel that will continue for some time.

Thank you all so much for the opportunity to share in this wonderful evening. I truly felt that, if everybody in the UK saw it, our country would have a much better chance of understanding it’s proper place in Europe and the World.

I hope you will all have a chance to rest and reflect on what must have been a life-changing experience.

With all good wishes,

Franki
