About Me

Hi I’m Gavin and First Class Flowers is what I do.

My love of flowers was sparked by my Grandfather who each year would grow the most wonderful Chrysanthemum blooms from cuttings nurtured in frames. Apart from the ones he enjoyed indoors he gave the vast majority to friends, neighbours and family; he simply loved the joy he brought to peoples lives.

From the age of 13 I worked on a fruit, veg and flower stall moving completely to floristry before changing careers. Following illness and a lengthy rehabilitation I was recently medically retired but, whilst understanding my limitations, I felt I wanted to do something useful and of value to me and others (yes it’s sounds cheesy but as you get to know me you’ll know it’s sincere).

As someone living in Horley, who’s commuted through the railway station for a number of years, I was aware of the large space in the ticket hall. Some of you will already have found out I enjoy interaction with people, together with my love of flowers and fond memories of my ‘barrow boy’ days it was an easy decision to open a floristry business. I’ve always kept my hand in but in order to provide what I wish for you and for my personal pride I chose to brush up on my skills at the same time gaining a formal qualification; my Granddad would be proud I suspect! It was during this time that I realised just how happy working with flowers made me and I can point to the exact moment I realised I not only felt happy inside but also had a grin on my face as I created something of beauty.
