HOLLER BOY, HOLLER BOY, LET THE BALLS RING.
HOLLER BOY, HOLLER BOY, GOD SAVE THE KING.
Remember Remember the 5th of November.
Guy Fawkes Day, a day to celebrate, a day to remember.
Guido Fawkes, the reason we celebrate.
It’s a well known fact we celebrate bonfire night here in Britain, but do you know why??
Well here’s some interesting facts about Guido and the 12 other conspirators.
Guido was born in York on the day of the 13th of April 1570.
Later on in life Guido converted to Catholicism and traveled to mainland Europe.
Where he fought for the Catholic Spanish against the Protesters Dutch reformers. It’s during this time he learnt his trade in gunpowder and Explosives.
During his fight he tried to seek the support of the Spanish for a Catholic rebellion in England without any success.
He later met Thomas Wintour, with whom he returned to England with.
It was at that point he was introduced to Robert Catesby who was planning to assassinate King James the first and restore a Catholic monarch to the throne.
The plotters placed 36 barrels of Gun Powder underneath the House of Parliament. Guido Fawkes was to look after the barrels and was instructed to blow the barrels up on the day Parliament opened.
However a letter was sent anonymously to the king with instructions of the plotters attempt, the King ordered Sir Thomas Knyvet to conduct a search of the cellars, where they found Fawkes.
In the weeks that followed the trials began of the plotters where they were found guilty, and condemned to be hung, drawn, and quartered. To make sure of their death.
Guy Fawkes decided to kill himself by jumping with the rope around his neck.
After which he was burnt on a bonfire with the words called out.
Remember, remember the fifth of November,
Gunpowder treason and plot.
We see no reason
Why gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot!
Guy Fawkes, guy, t'was his intent
To blow up king and parliament.
Three score barrels were laid below
To prove old England's overthrow.
By god's mercy he was catch'd
With a darkened lantern and burning match.
So, holler boys, holler boys, Let the bells ring.
Holler boys, holler boys, God save the king.
And what shall we do with him?
Burn him!
