We need a Mediterranean NS event that's more like the real thing, less like a Youth Club Venue!
Would you support a type NS venue in that KEEPS THE FAITH; sticking to a playlist of AUTHENTIC Northern, Crossover, R&B, Motown, even some Modern if it truly fits the bill?
One thing that won't get featured is the fake imitations going around in increasing numbers, which I feel are an insult to the real thing, the stuff that was recorded back in the 60's and 70's!
I'm heading back there in February, the holiday season starts in April, and there is a place in Stalls, IrishHouse Stalis, that would be an ideal venue. They have been holding a Northern Venue there each Friday, but it was losing its way when I last attended, because only a handful of Soulies, and I use that term loosely, more your Youth Club type Soulies would attend each week.
Point is, it's an ideal setting, right on the beach, nice dance floor, which would be big enough if the tables were rearranged. It is also a great, family friendly, resort, has a frequent bus service, giving access to the whole island, and is only 25 minutes from the airport.
it is a pity that the playlist has become increasingly diluted, to the point where it's now being integrated with Karaoke, but that's down to the fact that half of a dozen Youth Club Soules, at best, attend each week--it's understandable that the owner needs to bring in holiday makers.
The girl that does the DeeJaying has a limited knowledge of Northern, so she doesn't quite get it right, but I did introduce her to some quality stuff and she played it and loved it, so she's definitely has promise in that department--she is young and enthusiastic, but, alas, wants to run the whole show.
However, if I can take a plan to the owner, one that keeps her involved, but one that offers a playlist that KEEPS THE ORIGINAL FAITH, and if I can guarantee attendance, I'm certain events can be established. I live close to Stalis, about 15 minutes on the bus, 10 minutes from the airport.
There is a coffee house two doors away from me, so I want to put the idea of using it for meet ups, get them to play Northern, Motown, Crossover, R&B and appropriate Modern. during our get togethers.
If you are genuinely interested in making it your holiday destination, and in comparison to other Greek Islands, Crete is one of the most affordable, please get in touch and we can take it from there. And there are always other ideal venues open to the idea, I know, because I asked around last time I was there!
