WORKSHOP DETAILS
In this introductory workshop we will be learning to play traditional Celtic melodies (tunes) on the acoustic guitar. We will be in Standard Tuning, playing with a plectrum (flatpick), and learning as a group a variety of popular session tunes including airs, reels, and jigs.
Primarily the guitar has been used as an accompaniment instrument in Celtic music providing a rhythmic and harmonic back-up and support for melody players (fiddle, whistle, pipes, mandolin). With Celtic Flatpicking Guitar we are now going to join in and share taking the lead as one of the melody (tune) players.
This workshop is aimed at adult guitar players who have been playing for three or more years and are comfortable with basic lead playing. And also for more advanced guitar players who are new to playing Celtic Flatpicking Guitar or traditional Celtic music and would love a helpful introduction into playing this beautiful, traditional and fun music!
*Get in touch if you are unsure if you are at the right level for the workshop.

It was Comrie night last Thursday at the folk club and a very special thanks to The Erratics for a great night's musical entertainment. A big crowd were treated to a mix of traditional tunes played courtesy of Rod Paul's expertise on his 1927 Gibson Mandolin and the sensitive songwriting of guitar player and singer Colin Roxburgh. Both were ably backed up by the solid, deep rhythm vibes of Robin Spearing on double bass. We even had a Grateful Dead cover and a friend of the band performing lovely backing vocals. Special thanks also to John Paul Mason for a fantastic opening set featuring Cathy Tillbrook grooving on cello. Well done to all who made the effort to come along and support live music in Crieff.

Hannah Rarity and Heather Cartwright gave us a Fantastic night at a packed Strathearn Arts last night. Special thanks to Huroosh for support. One of the highlights of the night was this special version of Joni Mitchell’s “Case of You”.
Thanks to everyone who came along to see multi instrumentalist and composer Fraser Fifield and guitarist Graeme Stephen on Thursday. We were treated to a eclectic mix of cross genres including Scots traditional, jazz and world music. It was a pleasure to witness musicians pushing their creativity to make innovative music which crosses boundaries and combines traditional roots music with modern tech.
Special thanks to Eilidh Steel and Mark Neal for a great night last night. Also to fantastic support from Rob Griffith and Pam, the valued support from the volunteers and to those of you who came along to support the event to help us keep bringing live music to Crieff!!!
Thanks to Jez Lowe for a fantastic evening of songs and chat last night. A first time for Jez to perform in Crieff and hopefully not the last. Special thanks to Angie Wright for a great support!
Our winter/spring programme kicked off with a bang last Thursday courtesy of the musical force of nature that is Tim Edey . Tim gave us all a very special night with a virtuoso performance on guitar and concertina that prompted two standing ovations! Not to forget our support Terry O’Brian and Stuart Millar who went down very well with the crowd and joined Tim on one of his two encores. A memorable night that will be long talked about by everyone involved with the club!
