A year ago I had the privilege of representing Reaseheath College as part of a small team at the floristry world cup at the GMEX in Manchester. It's an international competition which is held in different countries every 4 years.

It was an amazing day and we came second which I am extremely proud of.

We had to make a sustainable representation of the Manchester Bee which we made out of loofah, wire, test tubes, wool, glue which we made out of gelatine and of course, flowers 🌸

It was one of the best experiences of my career so for and one I am so proud of 🥰

Hi everyone! I hope you're all well 🙂 i can't believe it's the last week of the holidays already!

If anyone needs flowers during the last week of September please ensure you order flowers in advance as I will only be providing pre-ordered arrangements on that week.

I will be in on Weds/Thursday preparing wedding florals, but I will be traveling to Nottinghamshire on Thursday afternoon to ensure I'm there in good time to decorate the venue so the shop will be shut the rest of the week.

I know it's early notice and I will pop out a post closer to the date

Summer has finally arrived! But as you all know, flowers don't like too much heat.

So, here are some tips to help you het the most out of your flowers in this weather:

🌷 Make sure you cut the stems of your flowers and keep them in fresh water.

Much like us, they need to drink more in the heat. Bacteria also thrives in this heat so make sure that you change the water every 2-3 days (or more often if needed). When you change the water cut the stems each time at a 45 degree angle to allow them to take up more water.

🌷 Keep the flowers in a cool place out of direct sunlight.

Avoid south facing windows and conservatories.

🌷 Keep your flowers away from ripening fruit.

Particularly bananas and apples. As frut ripens it releases ethylene gas causing your flowers and foliage to wilt.

🌷 Avoid strong breezes

We may love the doors open or a fan but your flowers won't so Keep them away from draughty areas.

🌷 Mist them

Flowers drink through their petals as well as their stems, so if you can give them a misting with water a couple of times a day (you could even mist yourself if needed too)!

ℙ𝕖𝕒𝕔𝕖 𝕃𝕚𝕝𝕪 (𝘚𝘱𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘱𝘩𝘺𝘭𝘭𝘶𝘮 𝘸𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘪)

Recently, I've had quite a few questions about peace lilies and how to keep them. Did you know they're NASA recommended for their air cleaning qualities? Also, some people have issues with the plant not flowering for them, so here are a few tips below 🌿

𝙇𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜

Bright indirect sunlight, an east facing window would suit it perfectly. Signs of insufficient light include drooping leaves and lack of blooms.

𝙒𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜

So this is key to good peace lily health. You should water when the top inch of the soil feels dry. Overwatering causes droopy leaves and yellowing foliage. Underwatering is better than overwatering. That said, the peace lily is a bit of a drama queen, and if it needs a drink, it will droop, but if it's too wet, it will cause the roots to rot.

𝙁𝙚𝙧𝙩𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙜

Give the plant fertiliser during summer and spring once a month but avoid autumn and winter. Too much fertiliser causes issues for the plant.

𝙏𝙚𝙢𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙃𝙪𝙢𝙞𝙙𝙞𝙩𝙮

Peace lilies like a higher temperature and thrive in higher humidity levels (a bathroom would be perfect). Make sure you mist the leaves regularly and avoid sudden temperature changes and the cold.

𝘼𝙙𝙙𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙏𝙞𝙥𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙏𝙧𝙞𝙘𝙠𝙨

○Wipe down the leaves regularly to avoid dust build-up.
○Drooping leaves - check for over or under watering and lack of light.
○Brown leaf tips - increase the humidity.
○Yellowing leaves - overwatering, nutrient deficiency or too cold.
○No blooms - not enough light, nutrient deficiency, or cold temperatures could be causing your issues!
○Always use room temperature to water your plant.
