Whissonsett Village Hall

Whissonsett Village Hall Whissonsett Village Hall is used by the local community for clubs and activities and as a venue for parties, entertainment, fetes and visiting productions.

Whissonsett or Witcingkeseta as it was known in the Domesday Book means either the settlement of the Witcing tribe or a place of watery meadows. The village is in a valley on a tributary of the River Wensum with many wells and springs so 'watery meadows' describes it very well. Set in the heart of rural Norfolk, it is situated between the Market Towns of Fakenham and Dereham. Whissonsett is surrou

nded by farm land and orchards; the Village itself encircles a beautiful 14th century Church. It is an idyllic scene, but behind this seemingly timeless picture is the hard work carried out by generation after generation of ordinary Norfolk people to preserve and beautify the church and village they love. With a history dating from the Dark Ages and The Iceni Tribe (Eceni) to Modern times there is a lot more to the Village than first meets the eye.

We had our monthly meeting last night. On the agenda was a possible village Fete in July for everyone. We want to have a live music marquee , outside games, a bar , BBQ, raffles, tombola, guess the bear 🐻 name etc.
Unfortunately we don't yet have enough volunteers to make this happen.
So this is an unashamed plea and call for you to help if possible.
There is a lot of work needing to be done ahead of time to make this happen, then work also during the day and then the clean up afterwards.
So please join in us at the open invite Fete team meeting on the 26th of Jan at 3pm. That's a Sunday.

A thank you to those who came to the hall this morning, to take down all the Christmas decorations. A floor sweep, hoover and window clean. As always you are much appreciated guys and girls. 👏❣️
If you would like to help with these kind of little jobs ? Some of them are less than one hour of your time.
Many hands make light work and we honestly need many hands at times.
It can get you out of the house, and involved in the community. 😊

Can you, and or your teenagers help us out please ?
We'll need bunting put up, games refreshed with paint job,
prizes collected from door to door,
stalls manned,
ideas of games to play on the playing field,
gazebos erected,
help with so many different areas to get such an event up and running.
Please do come along to the meeting this Tuesday at 7pm at the hall. We truly would love to hear your ideas for this fete . It can only happen if we get some volunteers please.
See you Tuesday evening. 😊

Save the dates, here is a taster of just some of the events planned this year.

We'd very much appreciate your empty glass bottles 🍾 🍾 and jars, and your empty envelopes ✉️ 💌 and other paper items over the festive period. Please use the bins in our carpark as we get some pennies back every time they get full.

P.S. They don't like or want cardboard in that big blue one on the end, so just paper please and thank you 😊🙏.

We've had our monthly VH meeting this evening. We are all blown away by the kindness of some of our villagers. Helping us so much, by being generous in the donations for the prize bags for this Fridays BINGO ! You people coming together to support these events, especially during difficult times of a cost of living crisis. Thank you 🙏
(p.s if you haven't yet booked yourself a bingo table, you may miss out)

The "Ladies of Whissonsett" are a small group of women who do so much for Whissonsett Village Hall .
So it is only right we should help advertise their Reach for the stars event. These ladies are rasing funds for the Dereham Cancer Care charity.
