Hello, Facebook! Hope you're all well! What a day of rejoice to see the Tories get a well needed BOOT out of Parliament. For the first time in a long time, I feel a sense of hope that things *might* change for the better...we can only hope!

I wanted to give a quick shoutout to our return to DISS at The Corn Hall for our biggest show in the East this Summer on SATURDAY 13th JULY! It is currently scheduled to be our LAST show of 2024 at this venue - we currently don't have another pencilled in for the future, so for all intents and purposes, we'd LOVE to pack it out with a big, q***r celebration and go out with a BANG! We'll be bringing fabulous numbers, gorgeous guest artists, stunning outfits and camp chaos and we'd LOVE it if you could join us one last time and end on a high! You won't catch us Down in the Tube Station at Midnight - especially not in this weather - but you will catch The Jam'd, widely regarded as the UK's most authentic tribute to The Jam, here at The Corn Hall THIS SATURDAY! That's Entertainment and tickets are still available!

If you love The Jam then you need to be here for The Eton Rifles, Town Called Malice, Going Underground and more!

As featured on BBC Radio 4, The Jam’d give an unforgettable performance with all the energy, passion and style of the Woking 3.

Full time professional musicians, the band are also massive Jam fans. Every effort is made to reproduce the sound, arrangements and energy of a Jam gig – including a brass section and, the only replica of Rick Bucklers ‘Great White’ drum kit.

They don’t "pretend to be" The Jam, but rather put on a performance from the heart and soul, drawing on their memories, experiences and love of what was the country's biggest band in their day. Those who saw The Jam live will remember the electricity, passion, and even fashion on stage.

“the best Jam tribute you'll ever see!" The I.O.W. Scooter Rally

Escape the election hysteria (after you've voted, of course!) and join us for a delightful evening of joyous music here at The Corn Hall on Thursday 4 July with The Chris Ingham Quartet.

Ten years after their acclaimed album Hoagy, the Chris Ingham Quartet – Chris Ingham (piano/vocal), Paul Higgs (trumpet), Simon Thorpe (Bass) & George Double (Drums) – follow up with a new CD and a further joyful set of the wry, wise and beautiful songs of songwriter-singer-pianist Hoagy Carmichael (1899-1981), famous for timeless melodies Stardust, Georgia On My Mind and Skylark.

Hoagy II is a show rich with anecdote, insight and delightful curiosities from a unique and varied songbook.

Located right on the border between Norfolk and Suffolk as we are, this is the perfect event for our Corn Hall audiences - and even more so as it takes place on Suffolk Day (this Friday, 21/6/24) - a county-wide party to celebrate everything that is wonderful about Suffolk!

Charlie is always a popular and entertaining guest here at The Corn Hall and this is an intriguing and sometimes hilarious look behind-the-scenes in the making of the Netflix film "The Dig"... a film based on the novel of the same title about the famous Sutton Hoo burial ship and the people involved in it's discovery.

Charlie will explain how a potential "scam" email from The Dig producer, turned out to be genuine, only to be followed by a phone call from the film's star, Ralph Fiennes himself.

Charlie will go on to demonstrate his unique and fascinating method of teaching actors, including Ralph Fiennes, how to master a regional dialect, so it sounds natural... and not exaggerated and "put on". He will also explain the extreme lengths Ralph Fiennes took, not only to play Basil Brown, but to become Basil Brown.

In a house balanced on an eroding cliff in North Norfolk, local recluse Manny gets a surprise visit from his estranged sister, Jessie, whom he’s not seen for a year. She’s wildly unpredictable, searching for a long lost family secret, and has inexplicably brought along with her a petty criminal, Lee Farrier, trussed up in a sack.

As a rising tide eats away at the foundations, it’s the sudden appearance of a local girl, Cally, arriving with a damaged reputation and an uncanny ability to read minds, that prompts all four to try and salvage something from the day before it’s too late.

But as time runs out, a hastily reckless plan begins to fall apart, exposing the bitter truths that have brought them together, the lies they’ve told each other, and against all expectation, the strangely redemptive power that might just be buried beneath their feet.

Don't miss your opportunity to see this wonderful local theatre company here in Diss THIS THURSDAY (21/06/24). Tickets are still available - https://www.thecornhall.co.uk/shows/elephant/

10/06/2024

Tuesday's screening of the Royal Opera House’s production of Andrea Chénier is a particularly special one for us here at The Corn Hall because it features one of our own!

Diss resident, Emma Lister, a professional ballet dancer, dances a featured role within the production. Emma, who retired around the time of the pandemic, has come out of retirement especially for this part. And we couldn’t be more thrilled or more proud to be the venue to relay the screening right here in Diss.

Emma and her partner dance a pas de deux in Act I, as the entertainment during a party scene – rather like a play within a play. Emma shared a selfie taken on stage during rehearsals and some behind the scenes shots too.

Emma says…

"I've long gone to the live cinema broadcasts at The Corn Hall from the Royal Opera House —so it's surreal to be so featured in one! Dancing on that famous stage was a long held aspiration of mine, and though I danced for many years in London before moving to Diss, I could never make it happen.

It was a very last minute that I was asked if I could be the ballerina in this production and though it's meant a lot of commuting and organising, it's been so worth it to tick that stage off my bucket list!

The screening on Tuesday 11 June at 7:15pm is a particularly special show as it's Antonio Pappano's last performance conducting at the Royal Opera House as Music Director, so to get to take a bow with him on stage will be very memorable indeed."

All the team here at The Corn Hall wish Emma a wonderful experience and we’ll be glued to the screen to watch our local star.

Tickets for the screening are still available so book now to join us! >>> https://www.thecornhall.co.uk/shows/andrea-chenier-the-royal-opera-live/
