Charlton Down Village Hall complex (Herrison Hall) was built in 1895 and updated in 2003. The Ballroom, Toad Hall and Kitchen, are all available for hire at reasonable rates. Local Residents running group activities and clubs (open to the general public) in the Village Hall complex, may attract a 50% discount on the hire charges. The Village Hall has a part time administrator plus a number of volu

nteers also assist. If you would like to help out in any way please contact the hall adminstrator. Clients are respectfully reminded that all rooms should be returned to the state and layout as they are found. We operate an Online Booking System which enables clients to see availability, make bookings and see all the details of a booking. Go to our website to see the bookings chart, full instructions are given on how to use it. Clients can book the use of the kitchen for preparation of light refreshments. This use does not constitute "Exclusive" use of the kitchen as we only have one kitchen and other clients may wish to use it as well. Toad Hall has it's own sink, kettles and crockery for use with light refreshments. Prospective clients are encouraged to arrange a tour of the rooms and their facilities in order to facilitate their use. High speed internet is available throughout all rooms. The Ballroom has a 4 metre x 3 metre screen that is fed by a 5,000 lumens rear projector coupled to the sound system. Stage lighting and a P.A. System are also available. There are many clubs and groups meeting in the Village Hall each week. For a list of these see the website and click on Groups and Regular Events. You may then contact the clubs directly for further information. We hope you will enjoy the marvellous facilities at our Village Hall by joining a club or supporting one of the many events held here…..alternatively, why not start up your own club or group? Please speak to the hall administrator if you need help or advice on any matter relating to the Village Hall.

The trustees have been running a project in conjunction with Low Energy Dorset to reduce the hall's CO2 emissions and aim to cut our electricity bills by over 60%. We have used three local companies who can all come highly recommended. Low Carbon Dorset (https://www.lowcarbondorset.org.uk/) have been great at providing Free energy saving advice and we have been working with them on matching grant funding. Our website has been updated to include more information about the project and links to the companies used

Just a little update on the village hall. As you are all aware, some masonry came off the roof back in August. We have since been advised that other parts of the roof may also need repairing too. We have secured the area, hopefully found a structural engineer (after a lot of hard work by two of our trustees) and soon we will be able to move forward. We are hoping that the damaged roof will be sorted with insurance (which has been the major hold up for us as we have waited all this time for a loss adjuster appointment) but we will need to pay for any other repairs. Thankfully we have some money for that. We are sorry that the hall cannot be used for meetings and clubs but please be assured we are working very hard to get the hall back open. This has been especially annoying as we had hoped to launch the community cafe during this time.

Now for the appeal! We could do with one or two new trustees. The current team is fantastic. But one or two more people with different talents and areas of interest would be great. If you are interested and would like further conversations, do contact us.

The trustees have made the decision to close the hall until further notice following the recent damage to the roof and brickwork. If there is a building surveyor in the village (active or retired) that would be able to advise us further we would really appreciate it!
