Bring your wedding to life with big, beautiful, riotous pops of colour! Colourful weddings don't need to mean "bohemian or alternative" weddings. You can create a clean and classic look like my girl Lucy did and add in a glorious bloom of flowers, have colourful table decor, brightly coloured shoes. There is no limit to what you could add in to bring life, colour and pizzazz to your celebrations. (I don't think culturally we use the word "pizzazz" enough).

Choosing your suppliers for a destination wedding…
My number one recommendation is to do your research!
Don’t just pick anyone because it’s easier than putting in the hours. Checkout potential venues and suppliers online, on social media, review sites and by sending off emails.
How long do they take to reply?
What is their manner like?
Do they sound invested or do they not seem bothered?
Is it cheaper to bring a team with you or choose your crew locally?
Ask to schedule zoom calls with your shortlist and see who you vibe with – it’s a big deal to not be able to meet
you’re A-Team in person before the big day so make sure you’re not rushing into anything.
I also think it’s a good idea to make sure your suppliers have some sort of experience with the venue or location of your wedding.
You will be going into your wedding, mostly blind so to have a planner who knows the venue and the team, a photographer who knows the grounds and a catering team who knows the kitchen and the setup they need, is a really great place to be. People who know the inside scoop! That’s what you’re looking for!

BIRTHDAY WEEKEND 🎂
I wanted to share a little reflection post between 35 and 36.
Every year, I encourage you to do the same, take some time for yourself and don't lose sight of your achievements, no matter how seemingly small. Reflect upon them and be proud.
The last 12 months have been a huge learning curve and an emotional roller coaster, both personally and professionally. The effects of brexit had finally settled in, trickling down from the government to our suppliers and eventually, had taken hold of our small business.
I won't lie and say that the last year has been a breeze in this industry.
It hasn't been.
Every week it seems, another boutique is closing down and we had to make some huge financial decisions and totally flip the way we operate, after 5 years in business (and surviving a pandemic in the meantime!)
We had some incredible highs & some incredible lows. We said goodbye to my best friend, Reggie in June. 3 years and 1 day after we adopted him from a shelter, us, his first and last family. This absolutely broke us as a family and although I'm not sure my heart will ever fully heal from saying goodbye to him, I used his passing to make changes of my own.
Fast forward to now, 36.
Our little business is thriving once again! LUSH CURVE is one of the most highly rated plus size bridal shops in the UK and my other boutique, BRIDE BY ASTER, is the highest rated boutique in the county!
I feel fresh, light, bright, happy and healthy. I made the decision to give up alcohol after losing Reggie, for my mental and physical wellbeing. It's coming up 8 weeks and I've never felt so present and filled with so much energy. I have also started cutting out sugar as I find without the alcohol, I no longer crave it and again, I feel so much brighter!
I don't know what is to come in the next 12 months, but unlike last year, I'm excited to find out. I am proud of myself for making it through and equally proud of my husband and business partner, who actually deserves the credit for navigating us through.

Sometimes the weather doesn't always do what you want it to! 10 years ago, we had a gloriously warm (but not hot), still, peaceful beautiful day....
For our renewal in April, the heavens opened! But hey, that's life! When you're out in nature, particularly in Africa, you don't make the rules! So you just have to play the game!
We had two choices - have photos with the animals or not. You can see what we chose! I'm not going to lie, the champagne in the game vehicle helped 🤣🤌🏼
The point is, have fun no matter what the weather. You won't control it and you can choose to let it make or break your day. Remember, there is never bad weather. There is only weather and how you feel about it 👍🏼

What do you think of when you hear the word ‘Spring’? Do you see in colour? Do you imagine with words? Do you experience it as a feeling or a smell? No matter how you interpret the word ‘Spring’ or how it passes through your internal processor, there are few things better than a glorious Spring day in England!
The air is rich with the smell of fresh grass, flowers, blossoms. The landscape is as green as you could ever hope for and the promise of new life is all around. Spring is a fabulous time of year to plan your wedding, if nothing else for the abundance of fabulous florals available. (The food is another big reason but we’ll come onto that later!)
One of my favourite reasons to have a spring wedding, are the colour palette options. Pretty pastels are a given but don’t think you only have to pick one! Imagine a flower bed or a meadow filled with English flora – there are riots of colour all around and it’s easy to incorporate them into a tasteful and picture perfect Spring wedding theme.
(Side note – your colour ‘scheme’ and wedding ‘theme’ are different). Eg. Rustic, earthy & bohemian theme with a blush and burgundy colour palette. I’m big into themes and colour
schemes being kept separate as they do different things. A theme helps you design and style your wedding décor, pick your dress, choose the suits etc whilst the colour brings it all to life in the style you want!

April 7th 2014 – I married my best friend, other half, love of my life, now business partner and father to my two amazing step children at a small game reserve on the East Coast of
South Africa.
We got engaged in 2012 at Hluhluwe Mfolozi Game Reserve (pronounced 'shu-shloo-ee oom-foh-loh-zee’) which is one of our sacred places and one of Angus’ favourite places in the world since he was a child.
We decided after a crazy 15 years together and 10 years married and all of the ups and downs that come along with that length of time, we would head back to South Africa and
renew our vows, just the two of us and begin our next decade in style. We went back to the small reserve where we had our wedding reception in 2014, and on the 7th April 2024, our celebrant who hosted our wedding all that time ago, conducted our renewal.
The following morning we went back to Hluhluwe to be in our sacred place, where we got engaged in 2012.
I know that a vow renewal isn’t for everyone. For me, I feel like we have grown so much as individuals but also as a couple. We love each other more now than when we got married and as we enter into a new chapter of our lives, I wanted to experience ‘just us’ in Africa, recommitting, reconnecting and looking ahead to our amazing future that we will continue to build together.
Thank you for my gorgeous custom dress, for keeping my curls curling and giving me a bloody amazing glow up! Thank you for helping us again 10 years on and for getting soaking wet in the rain with us and for Nick at Rain Farm, our game driver who was committed to getting us around! We had an absolute blast!

It might surprise you to know that January and February were insanely busy months! Like, bananas! And so, the lack of my gorgeous brides having their photos taken is really down to me being a bit rubbish and slow at posting them (as opposed to a 'quiet period').
Part 1 of February YESSSES! Some of my girls found their dream dresses in the trunk show we hosted, some created their own custom designs and some found AMAZING gems in our ready-to-wear section!

OK, so I'm a bit late on the post! I've been having a relaxed admin day, getting your orders in, putting out fires, updating the website, talking to suppliers, dealing with invoices etc (all in the comfort of my onesie of course!)
Today I've been mellow. I've been taking time to think about the last two years. I mean, who was writing a business plan in the middle of a pandemic??? Who was saving, planning, researching and preparing to open a second shop, just 6 months after our first shop had been forcibly closed for 13 months on and off?? Me and Angus....that's who 🤣
An insatiable drive to be better, an undeniable responsibility to ensure that we represent all women, (women just like me who have always been second best) and a burning need not to let that little voice inside my head who tells me "you can't", win!
(Incoming gooey alert)...From our very first day that we opened, it has been a privilege, a joy and a real honour to be part of your journeys. Those of you who have bought and those of you who haven't. Those of you who have trusted us after having had experiences elsewhere or wanted us to be your first appointment. Those of you who have travelled nationally and indeed internationally to visit us! We have never taken an appointment for granted and understand how daunting it can be, making it even more special that we are on your "must visit" list!
We've heard that a lot of small businesses don't last past year 2. A lot of bridal shops that started after the pandemic are already having closing down sales and small businesses in general were recorded as having a negative 6% drop in business last year. Yet somehow, through your support, your kindness and your following, we have made it through another milestone and have BIG plans for 2024/5!
Lastly, an enormous thank you to my husband Angus for being a huge part of our business without any of the good parts and to my right hand girl Tania & our assistants who have as much passion for LUSH as I do! ❤️

YOU ASK, I ANSWER @louisepentland ❤️ Thank you everyone who has recently sent me or tagged me in the gorgeous Louise Pentland's video regarding bridal shopping! I decided to create a video answering Louise's concerns directly as well as hoping to inform and alleviate some of the fears you may all have when it comes to bridal shopping as curvier women. As a size UK20 myself, I know how it is. I get it, seen it, done it, experienced it and have made a vow to add a little sparkle to this industry for my plus size babes, just like me. I'll be real for a moment. The bridal industry, is a little bit sh*t. Not all the time. But for girls with volume like us, it's a minefield and I am dedicated to walking through it, for you, for me and for those to come. For brides, like Louise (who you should be following if you're not already) and so many others, the idea of bridal shopping can be emotionally distressing and often nauseating (I don't take it personally, don't worry) 🙃 that is why LUSH exists. We provide a safe, private and personal space for super fun, relaxed and playful appointments and it's why we have not only national, but international clients. Let's make this big! FATPHOBIA and how it manifests itself in the Bridal Industry....(triggers - mentions weight loss) I filmed this earlier this morning and then took a few hours to breath, consider and digest what I had filmed. Of course, my head is naturally flooded with self-doubt. "Should I even bother"? "Am I going to look like I'm moaning"? "This could be controversial"... And I decided to post it. And here are my reasons.... 1) I have a small business. I have 2 shops, one of which caters to the curvy bridal market. I would need more than 3 hands to count how many times I have been spoken down to, overlooked and side lined by bridal brands/reps/other stores in the last 12 months because I have a "plus size" business. 2) I have fluctuated in size my entire life and I'm so done with being overlooked in certain arenas because I'm fat. I won't hide my voice if I think something is unjust. I don't colour my world with chaos and drama, but if you raise your sword then I'll raise mine. But someone is gonna die at the end (metaphorically speaking of course)... 3) I would need more hands than I have to count the amount of times I have actually witnessed and/or heard people point, snigger, comment on the mannequins I use or the size of the dresses I have when I'm standing right there. Sometimes they even direct their criticism to me as was the case yesterday. Why do you get to tell me your thoughts whilst I remain silent? Is that a business who advocates for their brides or is it a chicken who doesn't want to rock the boat for fear of being called a maverick or a bitch? We come in all shapes, colours, sizes and the notion of one size fits all when it comes to bridal, is absolute bulls**t. So pay no attention to the haters. If you pass me and don't like my mannequins because they're a size 20, check yourself. If you think my plus size dresses are frumpy because they're bigger than what you want to see, check yourself. If you think it's acceptable to criticise my business and my

HOW TO LACE UP A CORSET ✌🏽(video also available on YOUTUBE and pinned to the top of our Instagram page for easy access!) We prefer to use a method called "French lacing" as demonstrated in this video. This allows for full control of the corset at all stages whist focusing predominantly on cinching at the waist. I will go as far as saying that last year when I went to the gym, I saw a trainer sniggering at a larger woman who was on the treadmill. I actually went and called him out. Shame on him. I went for a run today because I fancied it. Its a beautiful morning and I wanted to move my body because it feels good. I deserve those endorphins. So I went out, in my leggings, and I got them! And I couldn't care less if someone laughed at me on their drive to work, or scoffed because they're jealous of how FLAWLESS I look in my bandana..... I may be bigger, but with my bigger body comes a bigger mind and I've not got time for haters or small mindedness. So if laughing at me is the only joy you'll get today then, you're welcome 😊 🙏🏼 Teach your children, your friends, your colleagues, your piers to be kind. Lord knows this world needs it right now. And if you're afraid of exercise because you're afraid of ridicule, I urge you to fake confidence until you simply don't care anymore. You have the right to move your body and LOVE every part of yourself. Because when your judgement day arrives, you'll be glad you wore the leggings!

THINGS BRIDAL CONSULTANTS HAVE ACTUALLY SAID TO BRIDES...... I'm not here to name and shame other bridal shops. That's not my style. But I DEFINITELY am here to draw attention to bad practices, bad behaviour and down right bad manners. Some of this s**t is actually unbelievable. Who says this? "Size 8 dresses look better on the hangers?" When did it become our job to dress coat hangers and not women? "I can see your rolls". At what point in history did it become abnormal for women to have a little pooch or a mum tum? And at what point did it become OK to turn this into something we should feel ashamed of? This is what we as women are facing and it's 9/10 at the hands of other women and totally outdated beauty standards.
