From a young age, I have always wished to have a career in the creative industry - either that or I wanted to be a Vet - clearly my younger self was unaware of my lack of academic abilities.
When I left my first Primary school to move down to the south of England from Cambridge, my art teacher begged my mother to make sure that I would continue to be creative, and pursue art, and so I did! After Primary School I then went onto Secondary School, receiving A’s in my Textiles, Art & Design, and Media Studies GSCEs. I then knew that the arts were for me. Continuing my studies I joined Brockenhurst College, studying BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma: Art & Design, passed with a DDD*, and won ‘Textiles Student of the Year’ in 2016 for my final year exhibition and my hard work throughout my 2 years at the college.
After receiving an unconditional offer from Plymouth College of Art for their Costume Production & Associated Crafts course, I joined my boyfriend (now Fiance) in Plymouth to study. In my first year, I was exposed to many different types of creatives and was able to experiment and experience costume design and making. After just finishing my second year, I have been able to identify the area that I would most like to specialise in; costume props.
In my final and 3rd year at university I created two costumes based off of characters from the History Channel’s show Vikings, from this I was able to delve further into the world of Cosplay and develop my skills in leather-craft and foam-craft.
Having finished and completed my final year (graduating with a 2:1) studying Costume Production and Associated Crafts, I am beginning to find my own way through this industry and where I belong in it.
