More fantastic optical art explored and created at my Create Clubs this week! Our artist of the week was optical artist Bridget Riley and we explored how her patterns gave the illusion of movement. We then had fun decorating a heart with our own patterns to create an op art Valentine’s Day card. Some children also went on to explore more pattern making using coloured cards or pens to make patterns. What a lovely relaxed and peaceful afternoon I had at Riverhead Hall Care Home this afternoon. Although it was a quieter session than normal I loved chatting to the residents, learning about their families and the things they have done on their lives. It’s always so interesting to speak with them and I always learn something new. Today we decided to brighten up the grey days with some gorgeous valentine and spring baskets made from card and patterned papers. We also added sparkle and pom-poms for some extra va va voom! What wonderful work we had created at Driffield CE Infant School Create Club this week. The children looked at the artist Frida Kahlo this week and in particular her portraits. The children used mirrors to look carefully at their feature before drawing themselves and adding bright colours and Frida’s famous flower crowns from tissue. I had a lovely morning yesterday at Driffield Toastie Tots group meeting lots of families and little ones. The children had fun exploring mark making, making painty hand and footprints and had lots of fun. We also had some super cute canvases created to record those memories of being little. We had a great first week back at Create Club at Driffield Junior School and Driffield Northfield Infant School this week! Our new topic is all about Awesome Artists and we kicked off with American Artist Faith Ringgold who was known for her beautiful textiles and quilts which interpreted stories of her life. The children though about a memory and drew their own quilt designs and used patterned and textured papers to create the patchwork effect. We had some amazing designs and lovely quilt creations. A great first week back at Driffield Junior School and Driffield Northfield Infant School this week! We started a new topic in ‘Awesome Artists’ and started with American Artist Faith Ringgold, who is known for creating fabulous quilts which depict her happy memories and stories of her life. The children thought about their happy memories and drew them on their quilts. We added patterned papers and collage to give the patchwork effect to them. We had some amazing artwork produced and it was great to see everyone again after the Christmas break. I’ll look forward to seeing you next week to explore a new artist. I had an amazing morning on Saturday helping Pippa and her friends celebrate her 5th birthday! Pippa and her guests had fun painting and decorating trinket boxes with jewels and sparkles before making some fab mask! It was a brilliant morning and the children were so good and did so well. Our final create club of the term was of course as promised a super slimy session! The children love to make slime, so I treated them to a super slime session to end the term. I loved how some made Christmas slime, adding glitters and small sequins to make it sparkle, whilst others enjoyed keeping their slime simple so it was best for blowing bubbles, flipping and stretching! Great to see all the kids have so much fun in our final week before Christmas. The lovely ladies who joined me created their own embossed foil art and used metallic acrylic paint to give them sparkle and shine! I loved the different designs created, some ladies going for floral designs and others going Christmas themed! Each of them absolutely stunning!
