The Flower Pedlar

The Flower Pedlar As a Pedlar, I used to push my barrow of flowers around city centres but changing times mean change for me too.

I am now taking bouquet orders for beautiful freshly picked English Country Garden flowers grown by me in the Meon Valley.

How I spend my time in my teeny-tiny work area

Amidst the gloominess of the dull day, beauty blooms unexpectedly. As you walk along the dreary road, the gray sky hangs low, casting a muted light over everything. The pavement is cracked and uneven then you glance to your left and are greeted by a burst of colour. A pretty Flower Stall overflowing with blooms of sunny yellows, deep purples, and soft pinks which dance together as a sweet blend of blossoms that seems to lift the heaviness of the day.

A gentle breeze stirs, causing the flowers to sway slightly, as if inviting you closer. The warmth of the colors and the delicate beauty of the flowers create a stark contrast to the dreary surroundings, momentarily drawing you out of the gloom and into a moment of unexpected joy so you can’t help but smile 😊

I thoroughly enjoyed decorating the Private Dining Room with fresh, seasonal flowers for a surprise birthday lunch. The flowers brought vibrant energy to a dull, rainy day, enhancing the special atmosphere and the delightful dining experience at Hambledon Vineyard. The foliage curtain beautifully complemented the colours of the flowers, creating a striking visual impact. Soft pinks and pastels were chosen to reinforce the feminine theme, and each guest received a posy to take home as a memento of their special lunch.

I don’t stick to New Years Resolutions, so I’m trying New Season resolutions. I must, and I will, get my plot ready for winter NOW! My mindset is ‘I have the long winter ahead to do that’ but before I know it, it has gone. The autumn sunshine is perfect for weeding, staking, dividing and moving plants, especially with all the overnight rainfall we’ve been having. I’ve already worked 3 beds; 12 more to go 😇💪

One of the two forks in my life. A kitchen fork is perfect for ‘pricking out’ my autumn sown hardy annual seedlings. These were sown in September and I’m now moving each seedling into individual cells with fresh compost. They will stay in these cells in the greenhouse for a few more weeks. Depending on the weather, I will plant half outside in my plot and the other half will stay in the greenhouse until the spring. If the weather behaves, without any unusual surprises, the ones planted out will flower earlier than those in the greenhouse, giving me a natural succession of flowers.

To keep your flowers lasting longer, after 5 days or so, snip the stem ends to re-open the water-drinking capillaries. Remove any faded blooms and put in a clean vase of fresh water.
