We are seeking to recruit a part time chef to cater for both Masonic and Public functions.
The successful candidate will be capable of cooking a range of meals from scratch (we cook here, rather than reheat package meals!), to include homemade soups, roast dinners, curries, pies and hot sweets.
The core duties are 3-course meals for between 10 and 30 people on a weekday evening (mostly Tuesday-Thursday, occasional Friday), with service starting at 7:30pm, and working hours of 3pm – 9:30pm.
In a typical year, there are 60 working days, between September and May. In addition, there will be a variable number of Friday/Saturday functions for between 80 and 160 people, which will again include 3 course meals and a range of evening buffets. For these functions additional kitchen staff will be in place to assist the chef.
The chef is also responsible for maintaining the kitchen to retain our Food Hygiene rating of 5, and should hold a level 3 food hygiene certificate.
Reporting to the Hall Manager, the Chef should share the same vision of providing an excellent product that ensures that the hall maintains its reputation for excellence in catering, and must be committed to working co-operatively with the manager to ensure the effective use and deployment of Waiting staff.
The position pays £14.00 per hour, together with statutory holiday allowances, which accrue with each shift.
There will be a 2-stage interview process, and candidates who pass the first stage will be invited to give a practical demonstration of their abilities. Candidates who are invited to the practical demonstration will be paid for their time in preparing the demonstration meal.
