This is a nice wee listen if you're looking for inspo for poems for your wedding ceremony. I don't always understand poetry. My brain thinks it means x when it actually means y. So clamp on your headphones 🎧 and give this a go.

Vanessa Kisuule investigates the best and worst of wedding poetry.

Mark and Rachel's Hogmanay wedding over the anvil at the historic Original Old Blacksmith's Shop.
For most of us, chat about liver fluke and sheep dip would be a 🚩 but for THESE guys it was ❤️
And the rest, I can confidently say, was history!
Thank you for having me! And thanks to everyone at The Old Blacksmiths Shop for their warm welcome on one of the craziest weather days!

Busy on Christmas Eve, were ye? Got married, did ye? David and Susan did! I picked Susan up from her home (with a white sheet covering the front seat because pawprints and crisp crumbs) and drove her to meet David at the lovely wee Kirkandrews Kirk near Borgue where they said their vows under the mistletoe next to a roaring fire. Festive! Thanks to the trustees of the kirk for witnessing this happy occasion. And OF COURSE I cunningly incorporated Dickens' A Christmas Carol into the ceremony. I'm not missing an opportunity like THAT on Christmas Eve. I'm not a COMPLETE idiot.

Rhiannon’s friend Ashleigh read this lovely poem.
“To Love Is Not To Possess” by James Kavanaugh
To love is not to possess,
To own or imprison,
Nor to lose one’s self in another.
Love is to join and separate,
To walk alone and together,
To find a laughing freedom
That lonely isolation does not permit.
It is finally to be able
To be who we really are,
No longer clinging in childish dependency
Nor docilely living separate lives in silence.
It is to be perfectly one’s self
And perfectly joined in permanent commitment
To another—and to one’s inner self.
Love only endures when it moves like waves,
Receding and returning gently or passionately,
Or moving lovingly like the tide
In the moon’s own predictable harmony.
Because finally, despite a child’s scars
Or an adult’s deepest wounds,
They are openly free to be
Who they really are—and always secretly were,
In the very core of their being
Where true and lasting love can alone abide.

Stranraer Station isn't a location you'd normally associate with love and romance, but here we are! Also, have you SEEN the marvellous Brief Encounter? Well Aynsley and Stuart (who's a train driver - the stuff of my childhood dreams!) met at Stranraer Train Station, and now they're married. Voila! Congratulations to them and thank you for having me!

Oh jeez I just realised Conor had his eyes shut! Ach well we can just do it all again eh? These gorgeous guys got married at GGs Yard yesterday and Storm Darragh didn't affect us one jot. Marvellous day with lots of familiar faces which is a blessing and a curse because it necessitates fresh material - none of my familiar old jokes will fly!
Congratulations guys and maybe I'll edit this pic with googly eyes on Conor

Liezel and Robert!
If you're familiar with that fine Edinburgh institution
you might recognise Liezel! She's worked there for a whole heap of time - longer than it takes for a wheel of the very best Parmigiano Regianno to ripen, in fact!*
Liezel and Rob MET at V&C while working there as students and look at them now! Liezel is also one of my best friend's daughters and who would have thought when she was born that i would marry her one day to her lovely Rob? The universe sure moves in mysterious ways eh?
They shared Doonhamer whisky in their quaich and handfasting with a lovely Ukrainian Rushnyk as a nod to Liezel's heritage
Beautiful venue too - the Edinburgh Grand Hotel. These are some family pics - not the professional ones which were
a couple of legends in their own time ❤️

*Haven't googled that so it's probably nonsense.

I'm in Edinburgh today! It's a sensory nightmare, but I'm happy to be here to marry Liezel and Rob. Liezel's mum Karen is my beautiful longtime friend so how could I say no! According to my fancy weddingcounterometer ™️ after today, I still have EIGHT weddings left in 2024! How lucky am I? I'm making hay while the sun shines. I'm in my dotage, you know.
I'm kinda off in January and February and I fantasise that I'll be catching up on embroidery projects, finishing knitting THAT jumper, and committing to learning the 🎸instead of allowing it to gather dust. I won't do any of those things, of course. I might even go on another diet again. Who knows?

Stand by for my yearly review of celebranting!

Why I’m a Humanist Society Scotland Celebrant

Hello! Choosing the Humanist Celebrant that's right for you is really important so let me tell you a little bit about me - I conduct Humanist Weddings, Vow Renewals and Namings - so I can help you say I do, I still do, and look what I did! (That last one applies to Naming Ceremonies - not sure that line works, but you can decide...).

I love to write, so writing ceremonies is an absolute blooming joy and I love to hear peoples' stories so that I can craft a ceremony that will knock their socks off!

I'm also the queen of statement necklaces and would feel naked if I didn't have e.g a six-inch glittery gold perspex lobster round my neck.

I’m also over on Instagram if you'd like to see some photos of ceremonies (and fancy necklaces make an appearance now and again) I've conducted, or drop me a message on 0773 901 7933 and we can have a no-obligation chat.
