Looking through old photos and realised we never publicly thanked Chris for this!

Last summer Chris & Donna got married here and in the run up to the wedding, Chris put his chainsaw skills to use and made the mushrooms that we've shown you. He also crafted this amazing sofa and another bench for around the fire pit at the roundhouse.

We were very impressed, and so grateful when he left all these beautiful things here for the site! Thanks. 😀

Storm Eowyn was determined that everyone was going to get cold bums when using the compost loos! Rest assured these boards have been replaced now.

It did make us all chuckle that the only boards that came off the campsite compost loos were at perfect height for a chilly wind when you sat on the seat (pun fully intended).

We posted this design of the roundhouse by .prints at new year and didn't expect such a good response! We've already posted some out and been able to hear some wonderful stories of why the roundhouse is special to people (some of which we'll be sharing with you over the next few weeks).

What a beautiful day! It's hard to think that less than a week ago we were battling some terrifying winds. ☀

Although we got off very lucky, there was of course some storm related damage on site including a hole in the thatch of the roundhouse. Thankfully this was fixed today, cheers guys!

INCREDIBLE ICELAND
This is one of those nights you can only hope for. This trip was planned to give us the best possible chance of capturing the northern lights but without a clear sky there's no chance of the aurora being seen. We had stayed in the hostel until about 11pm waiting for the clouds to clear before wrapping up warm to face the -9 degrees Celsius temperature outside and driving out to the Vestrahorn. With a very low KP reading we had little hope of seeing any aurora but were content to shoot this amazing place under the stars. As we set up our cameras and took our first test shots the excitement was undeniable we all realised what a show we were in for.
There is so little light pollution out here, I could see the arch of the Milky Way reaching across the sky, it took a 10 frame panorama to fit it, the mountain and the arch of the northern lights into one picture and I'm absolutely delighted in how it turned out. It will be the perfect reminder of an unforgettable night under the stars with Bush Photography Humans of Cambridge and Jonny Gios
Also, a massive thankyou to EDZ Merino Activewear who kitted me out with the most amazing base layers which are so warm and comfortable, these shots can only be achieved by spending long periods in extreme conditions and this merino clothing really is the perfect kit for the job.

The calm after the storm...or between them, apparently!

After a quick inspection today it seems we may have got off reasonably lightly in terms of storm damage. Quite impressive considering that was the scariest winds we've experienced up here in the 18 years we've been on site. Albeit, quite exciting!

The roundhouse kitchen/bar survived thanks to Jim literally battening down the hatch. 👌

And we were temporarily trapped in but the tracks have all been cleared of fallen trees, so we're off out to replenish the storm stash of baked beans!

Received some photos from our recent Hogmanay booking. Winter festivities in the forest. How lovely! ❄🥂

They kept warm in the roundhouse with intermittent trips outside to stare in awe at the beautiful stars that covered the sky.

We've been battling with the ice this week, but have had some determined guests who still managed to enjoy a weekend in the roundhouse despite the weather! Also some lovely visits from family and friends.

We hope everyone enjoyed celebrating the beginning of a new year last night, we imagine there's a few sore heads on site today!

2024 was an interesting year as Mike & Pam began to look at what retirement might look like for them. The whole team is going into 2025 excited to make the most of the site while we're still here, and ready to go out with a bang as this summer season is looking to be one of our busiest yet! Excited for another TV appearance being aired in the spring.

What better way to start the new year than by sharing this beautiful hand cut lino print by .prints - it really captures the roundhouse magic!
