Barbarella BEETS pop up Supper Club at Wishing Tree by the Sea last night was absolutely magic ✨
We served up a SIX course feast that had forks clinking, glasses fizzing, and taste buds doing a wee happy dance. Here’s what was on the menu:
Course 1. Bakehouse bread with smoked butter & olives – the perfect opener to warm up the palate.
Course 2. Comfee prawn with chilled gazpacho – cool, fresh, and bursting with summer vibes.
Course 3. Pea soup topped with a pea, feta & asparagus fritter – velvety, green goodness with a crispy kick.
Course 4. Beef tartare with potato pavé & quail eggs – rich, refined and a proper showstopper.
Course 5. Seared plaice with asparagus, wild garlic & hazelnut pesto, served with an apple, fennel & courgette salad – light, zesty and beautifully balanced.
Course 6. And to finish in style: Rhubarb & ginger tart, ginger & rhubarb fizz, vanilla ice cream and a cheeky wee rhubarb sherbet – a sweet, sparkling send-off.

Some people come into your life and leave a mark you’ll never forget…
This amazing family are very special to me.
When they asked if “the chef with the purple hair” was working many moons ago in The Herringbone, I had no idea that within minutes, Barbarella BEETS was about to come to life.
At the time, I’d just gone self-employed and was still figuring out what direction I wanted to take things in. What I did know was that I could no longer keep up with the crazy hours restaurants demanded of a head chef.
I was intrigued to find out who this couple were who wanted to know if I’d be cooking that day. We got chatting, and by the end of that conversation, they’d given me so much to think about.
Their lovely grown-up kids had a holiday let and an AirBnB, and they suggested I could cook for guests staying in them. They also told me about an amazing village hall in Coldingham that would love a chef to come and do a pop-up night — and just like that, the first seeds of Barbarella BEETS were planted.
During lockdown, they supported me religiously — ordering every week, turning up to pop-ups, cheering me on all the way.
Last night, I had the absolute pleasure of catering for them again — this time at a lodge in Gleneagles, celebrating their Golden Wedding Anniversary with three generations of the most wonderful, crazy, kind, fun-loving family you could ever hope to meet.
I was so happy to cook a feast for them, and I’ll never take for granted the love and support they’ve shown me over the years.
These guys will forever hold a huge space in my heart.

What a brilliant night last night for the East Coast Whisky Dinner — we were delighted to be asked to be part of it again, serving up a specially curated menu to match their expertly chosen drams.
From the smoked Belhaven butter to the chicken and pheasant roulade, every dish was designed to complement the whisky pairings — and judging by the empty plates, we’d say it worked a treat!
