Let’s talk about winter marquee maintenance at Henderson Gray! 💬

The first thing on the maintenance schedule for our team this year is our white PVC covers. The reason we do this is because if left wet and dirty they will accumulate mold which causes a burning reaction in the material that will essential stain the cover beyond recovery.

In our Dundee Depot each cover is opened checked, wiped, dried and even repaired if necessary. When pre-season(and warmer weather) arrives the team will quickly jet wash over 1500 separate covers from the end of March until the season kicks off in May. Ensuring pristine white covers for our customers.

Our depot in Blairgowrie which is our more high-end quality marquees in weddings and corporate. This team gets right to the end part pre-Xmas and will wash each and every cover with the jet washer before using our kerosene heaters to dry. This will be followed by wipe down, inspection and repair if needed then eventually storing it away for use the following year.

Big project alert! 🚨

We’ve just completed the second cover for Peacehill Farming in Wormit in 15 years.

This isn't your average roof – it's made from white high-density PVC 900gsm to act as a weatherproof shelter for their bio-fuel wood storage. The roof itself will be used to keep the fuel dry for burning!

Our team expertly welded this massive 16.5m x 6m cover in 5 sections (it's so big we couldn't even fit it all in the photo!).

Shout-out to University of Dundee for trusting us to deliver their October Open Day marquee!

This year’s set-up included a 12x45m marquee with flooring, 2 doors, banner rail, a matting for walkways, plus 9 Georgian windows which looked extra beautiful as the winter sun shone through ☀️😍

Behind the scenes in our manufacturing department! 🛠️

We recently restored a signed PVC cover for G&S Auto Tyres. The original Velbex had seen better days, so we replaced it with a brand-new one. The logo? Of course, that had to stay put!

For Dunkeld House Hotel (pictured), Henderson Gray is ensuring that their marquee remains in the best condition all-year-round.

Throughout the winter, our team will:

1. Dismantle the marquee once season is over.
2. Wash & check all linings.
3. Wash/check/repair all PVC covers.
4. Stack and check all floor for rot/repair/replacement.
5. Discuss all work available and recommend options.
6. Once finalised, we will re-erect the marquee in time for season start.

FYI: This is standard maintenance for any customer owning a seasonal marquee in situ!

It has been a real pleasure delivering our Covid Treatment Pods for NHS Lothian this year which has helped patients get their care very effectively.

Our pod for the NHS is 6m x 6m with a 3m x 25.5m sheltered walkway connecting the main structure to the pod.

As you can see, the marquee is well anchored with a combination of 1m Steel Stakes and drilled RAWL Bolts.

Thank you to the NHS for their custom and everything they do!

We’ve had a blast recently helping Blackwood Homes and Care celebrate the completion of a housing project in Charleston, Dundee! 🏡🎉

Henderson Gray provided the following for their special 2 hour event:
✅ 9x6 w/floor joined and sealed to a 9x3 w/floor.
✅ Heating throughout using a twin ducted kero heater.
✅ Sourcing and setup of all the electronics. Including the PA system, speakers and 2 screens for their presentation.
✅ Furniture in 24 folding chairs and 8 trestles tables.

We’re excited to introduce you to some of the team at Henderson Gray, starting with James Provost, our dedicated Manager! 🤝

James has been with us for over two and a half years now. He oversees operations at two of our key depots in Blairgowrie and our main office in Dundee.

His role is integral to our marquee hire services, which include erecting, dismantling, and maintaining marquees. He also handles sales and manufacturing of marquee covers, trailer covers, and other custom projects for our fantastic clients.

James has worked hard to get to where he is today, spending 18 years in the construction industry, starting as an onsite labourer. He earned a trade in scaffolding and worked his way up to Chargehand and eventually, Supervisor. He’s even experienced work across the globe, including offshore in the North Sea and all over the mining sector in Western Australia! 🇦🇺

After COVID brought him back to Scotland, James returned to the tools in the chilly Scottish weather. It was then he decided it was time for a new challenge, which led him to his current role with Henderson Gray 👏

This year’s St Andrews Winter Event showcased how our clients can decorate and light their marquees to create a breathtaking feel 💡🙌

For St Andrews University, Henderson Gray provided:
✅ 12x24 w/varnished floor and 3 windows as main structure. There were 2 glass doors on this.
✅ 6x6 w/varnished floor as catering. These we linked using our gutter system. So, you could walk between the 2 as one structure without any water getting in.
✅ The marquee equipment had to be craned over a wall using a Hiab as the access to the site was very poor - a challenge we were happy to meet!

There was also a 3m x 21m walkway to avoid any grass damage and allowed for clean feet when entering the marquee in the winter weather ❄️

Check out our set-up from the 21st Auchterhouse Annual Charity Shoot back in August!

The Shoot always has winning combination of challenging shooting competitions taking place in the morning, with prizes to be won at every stand, whilst the non-shooters are entertained with celebrity cookery demonstrations, fashion shows, beauty treatments and hospitality, all in the comfort of our tented village.

In the afternoon, everyone moved into the stunning main marquee for a fabulous afternoon hosted by Willie Allan MBE. A three course lunch, entertainment, prize-giving and auction all took place, finished off with the grand finale raffle for a brand new car!

This year, the event raised £400k for good causes and that money will be donated to Maggie’s, JDRF and Seamab School.

🗣 “Great service from start to finish and very accommodating! All the workers were very professional”

Thanking Arbroath United Cricket Club for the positive feedback we’ve received on our first sportsman dinner and music festival event, held in June this year.

For Arbroath United Cricket Club, Henderson Gray provided a 15m width x 27m in length tent with 22 PVC windows, one glass door and fully lined throughout with Ivory Pleated decor. This space was divided using a partition to create a kitchen area!

We also provided 3 large 12 arm chandeliers and 2m x 5m worth of staging for music on the Saturday. To finish off the grass was covered with beige matting inside the marquee.

We’re already looking forward to being back again for next year’s event and will ensure it is a great success once again! 🏏

It was a pleasure covering Blair Atholl Horse Trials just this last weekend! 🐴

Henderson Gray provided some of our fancy gear for this one, down to very small and basic tents - the smallest being 3x3m and largest being 15x69m marquee with sub steel levelled flooring which accommodated up to 600 seated guests.

Also included:
✅ Full glass side 7 glass doors (fully decorated with chandeliers!)
✅ A 9x18m kitchen
✅ Disabled ramps
✅ Fully furnished carpet
✅ Lockable doors and emergency lights

To top things off, we also added a 12x12m additional marquee to the side and a panoramic PVC, giving a conservatory feel to the place.

Despite the weather, attendance numbers were very high for the last year at Blair Castle Estate! 🙌
