You’re too old.

“I’m sorry but you’re too old”.

Now I’d be gutted if someone said that to me. But just imagine hearing that when you’re barely 3 weeks old.

You’ve had a busy 3 weeks. Being born, skin to skin time, mastering feeding… that took a good few days. Then there was grandmas and papas to meet. Then all the aunties and cousins. Then so many others people turned up to see you, ( mum’s old baby sitter, from 30 years ago …apparently).

And there’s constant visits from midwives and health visitors, and your mama has been very tired as she’s just given birth and 3 weeks has just gone by in a flash.

And then you hear your beautiful mum on the phone to a newborn photographer….it wasn’t something that she thought of in advance, because she didn’t know that “newborn photography” was a thing.

But now she desperately wants to have incredible memories before you grow any more…. But the photographer says “Your baby is too old!”… “Yes I’m so sorry, I only photograph babies up to 10 days old”.

Too old at 3 weeks!!! Utter rubbish.

You need to get your mama to contact me, Ally at Mabel & Møøse. I will never turn a baby away, ( if I have space.)

Age is just a number, even at 3 weeks.

Don’t miss out on photos of this magical sitting-up stage.

It takes so much skill for your little one to master holding and stacking wooden blocks.

We take it for granted when we do something like this but your baby will have to coordinate their tiny fingers and hands all while balancing themselves in an upright position.

Only a few months ago they weren’t able to hold their head up and now they are constructing a tower !

It’s been just over 4 months of knowing and loving my beautiful little grandson. I’m so proud of how my amazing daughter ( his mama ) has taken to motherhood. And his great smile says it all.

Archie was just 13 days old at his newborn photoshoot.

Please don’t worry about whether your baby will be wide awake or fall fast asleep. Most babies have do a little of each and if they don’t then I’m do a whole session where your little cub is awake or a full session where they sleep through the whole time.

The main thing is that you have precious memories, that’s all that matters.

I think there’s maybe one professional photograph of me as a baby. I’m propped up on a cushion and perfectly “posed”. It’s a cute memory. ( actually I don’t look very comfy or happy)

But it’s not really me. It doesn’t show my cute little squirmy face, or my adorable little pout ( I’m sure I was terribly cute)

When you ask me to photograph your newborn, I’m not trying to create perfect poses, I want to take heartfelt photos that are full of emotion and love and show just exactly how amazing and unique your baby was when they were tiny.

I love my little white studio and it’s perfect for photographing your little one from birth to their 1st birthday.
This older baby stage is often missed. But how can you not want to have memories at this stage. It honestly blows my mind when I hear people ( often other photographers) saying that a 4,5,6,7,8,9 month old is too old for baby photos. I adore every stage but this older baby stage is wonderful. Gummy smiles, their first tooth, tummy rolls and chunky little hands are the cutest.

Kudos to all mummies and daddies.
I don’t know how you care for your babies, 2 days in a row. Parenthood should really be on a “day on, day off” basis.
We baby-sat my 2 eldest grandkids at the weekend. When I say eldest, they are only 4 and 20 months, so still just little.
They were adorable little angels, but boy, are we were exhausted. We only had them for 24 hours but needed to lie down in a darkened room afterwards.
I had forgotten the hard work that goes into raising kids.
I’m sure I went to bed without brushing my teeth and wore the same clothes on day two.

The kids are so funny, they had us in stitches. “What happened to the hair on the top of your head Papa?”, And, “have you grown a hairy chest like my Daddy”, aimed at me (Nanny), was a particular gem. F’s obsession with body/facial/ hair, was the gift that kept on giving.
Little Miss 20-months, gave her best “it must be meningitis” scream, every single time I attempted to put her down. Who needs the gym, when you have Velcro child to carry around.
We loved every minute with them, but it made me realise the hard work all you young mummies and daddies do each day.

Rhymes, Rhythm, and Repetition.
Babies thrive when you read to them. Sharing a book with your baby, even a very tiny one, (a tiny baby, not a tiny book) will help strengthen the bond between you and help this language develop.

Board books are perfect for babies and it means that when they are old enough they can turn the pages themselves.

We’re Going On A Bear Hunt, was a massive favourite when my four were little. And it’s great to see that it’s now available in a board book version.
